Claudia Schiffer still fits in clothes she wore on the runway in the early ’90s.
The German supermodel, 52, wrote a personal essay for The Guardian Thursday and revealed that her jeans from three decades ago still fit like a glove.
“They are a part of my life as much as any treasured piece of jewelry or favorite artwork,” she wrote. “And, to be honest, I like the fact that they still fit me!”
Schiffer reminisced about a Chanel ad campaign and catwalk she did in 1993 wearing the denim, a western-style waistcoat, cowboy boots and a chain belt.
“I remember feeling very at ease in the look,” the stunning strutter recalled.
She noted that the “classic cut” of the pants — high-waisted with a straight leg — has kept the design timeless.
“I’ve worn these jeans on many occasions – they never go out of style and have stood the test of time,” the mother of three added.
Schiffer also pointed out how the material’s “intense shade of French blue and unique embroidered detailing” has kept the trousers designed by the late Karl Lagerfeld trendy after 30 years.
“The Chanel jeans have not required any repairs, although they have gently faded over time,” the cover model said.
She even shared how she styles the jeans nowadays, usually sporting them with a “striped knit, oversize blazer and ankle boots.”
The “Life Without Dick” actress said she cherishes her slacks so much that she pulled them out for her 2020 Elle Magazine photo spread.
Schiffer’s mention of Chanel comes just a month before the Met Gala is set to be held in New York. This year’s theme for the fashion’s biggest night is a tribute to Lagerfeld, who had been the creative director for the luxury French label since 1983.
The exhibition is called “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty” and will commemorate the German artist’s career, which spanned from 1954 to 2019 across brands like Balmain, Chloé, Fendi and, of course, Chanel.
She also described an anecdote about Lagerfeld in an Elle magazine profile, saying he would allow her to take whatever clothes she wanted from Chanel.
“People normally showered you with everything, really,” the blonde bombshell recollected. “Particularly at Chanel. Karl [Lagerfeld] would say, ‘Go downstairs to the boutique and take whatever you want. You can take the entire collection – whatever.’”
But despite the allocation, Schiffer believed that while others “may have taken advantage” of the icon’s kindness, she “never felt I could.”
She added: “There’s a certain limit when someone says, ‘Choose what you want.’ You don’t literally choose everything there is.”
The ’90s were known as the age of the supermodel and, along with Schiffer, the era’s biggest catwalk queens such as Tyra Banks, Heidi Klum and more have come back into the spotlight in recent years.
In 2021, Fendi and Versace held a collaboration fashion show called Fendace where Illustrious ’90s figures including Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Shalom Harlow, Karen Elson and Amber Valletta were center stage.
Kim Kardashian even brought back a few of the iconic nineties models such as Banks, Klum, and more for her Skims’ Fits Everybody collection campaign last year.
