Princess Diana’s short life was marred by heartbreak, trauma and tragedy, and audio tapes she recorded about her experiences are being made public 26 years after her death.

A documentary based on the recordings she created in the 1990s with biographer Andrew Morton, titled “Diana: The Rest of Her Story,” is set to be released next year.

“The King” author Christopher Andersen confessed to Fox News earlier this week that he “heard many hours” of these recordings over the decades, and revealed even more bombshell secrets Diana had recorded.

The author explained the tapes “are a haunting reminder” of Diana’s mental health struggles during her tumultuous marriage to now-King Charles.

“Despite her global fame — she could arguably be called the most famous and celebrated woman of her time — Diana was in tremendous emotional pain,” Andersen sighed.

He added: “She was up against a thousand-year-old institution that was determined to thwart her every move.”

“The distress she felt can really be heard in her voice. And what a beautiful, elegant, hypnotic voice it is,” the writer said.

In one startling moment, Anderssen remembered what Diana had said on the tapes when Prince Harry was born.

He said that Charles “blurted out disdainfully, much to the astonishment of doctors and nurses in the room, ‘Oh. God. It’s a boy. And he even has red hair!’ “

“At that moment, said Diana, ‘It just went bang, our marriage. The whole thing went down the drain. Something inside me closed off,’ ” Andersen stated.

A clip from the documentary debuted on Friday via “Good Morning America” that revealed how her younger son and his 1984 birth affected Charles, now 74, negatively.

The doc showcased how Charles was “disappointed” when he found out that Harry, 38, was not a girl.

“My husband won’t even talk to mummy, barely,” Diana — who died in 1997 at the age of 36 — in the documentary special.

She went on: “Because of Harry’s christening, Charles went up to [my stepmother Raine Spencer] and said, ‘You know, we were so disappointed. We thought it would be a girl.’ “

“And Mummy snapped his head off,” she recalled in the film. “And she said, ‘You should realize how lucky you are to have a child that’s normal.’ Ever since that day, the shutters have come down. That’s what he does when he gets somebody answering back at him.”

Andersen also noted that the Prince and Princess of Wales’ marriage “was famously stormy from the start.”

He believed that Diana knew that it was a “miracle” to be pregnant with Harry, despite her “marital battles with Charles.”

“She even began to convince herself that Charles did in fact love her,” Andersen said. “The reason for Charles’ new attitude was simple — he wanted a girl to round out the family.”
