‘Barbie’ movie first reactions are in: ‘Give Ryan Gosling an Oscar’

Come on ‘Barbie,’ let’s go party.

Critics are going gaga for the ‘Barbie’ movie after last night’s star-studded Los Angeles premiere.

The initial chatter is filled with praise for the Greta Gerwig-directed flick, which stars Margot Robbie, 33, as Barbie and Ryan Gosling, 42, as Ken.

More than one critic even went as far as to say that Gosling deserves an Oscar for his role in the hotly-anticipated film, which hits theaters July 21.

“Barbie caught me off guard & I mean that in the best way possible,” one critic proclaimed on social media.

“It’s funny, bombastic, & very smart. Greta Gerwig aims for the fences & hits a home-run.”

He added that Margot Robbie’s performance was “great” and Gosling is “pure entertainment.”

Another called the movie a “knockout.”

“As a comedy, it’s a total crowd pleaser — as an indictment of capitalistic feminism and urgent call to go ahead and eat our pets if trapped with them following a major earthquake, it is devastating. Gosling steals the show — absolutely loved it.”

“Barbie” is a fantasy-comedy about the famous dolls, Barbie and Ken, as they leave the colorful world of Barbie Land and journey to the real world. The supporting cast is filled with big names in comedy, including Will Ferrell, Issa Rae, and Kate McKinnon.

Ryan Gosling’s casting has caused controversy, since many Gen-Z “Barbie” fans have proclaimed him to be “too old” to play Ken.

“Ryan gosling is too ugly and too old to be playing ken, they should’ve casted henry cavill or chris evans bye,” one member of the couch-bound commentariat wrote.

But, critics who have seen “Barbie” are ready to hand Gosling awards for his performance — maybe even an Oscar.

“Barbie is currently my favorite film of the year. Greta Gerwig somehow exceeded my expectations. She tackles the positives and negatives of Barbie so beautifully. Give Ryan Gosling an Oscar nomination, I’m dead serious!” one critic exclaimed

Another critic proclaimed that the movie is “witty, heartfelt, and downright fun at times. Ryan Gosling is a scene stealer delivering most of the laughs while Margot Robbie’s heartfelt performance will tug at your heartstrings.”

However, her words weren’t only positive, because she also added, “While I enjoyed most of the film the screenplay feels bloated at times.”

The screenplay was co-written by Gerwig and her husband, Noah Baumbach (“Marriage Story”), the latter of whom skipped the “Barbie” premiere due to the ongoing writer’s strike.

One critic focused on the things he can’t believe “Greta Gerwig got away with,” which was meant “admiringly,” he added.

“I was grinning and gobsmacked throughout…like how did she evade what must have been five binders full of executive notes,” he marveled.

Another critic proclaimed that Robbie and Gosling were “born to play” the roles of Barbie and Ken.

“Greta Gerwig delivers a nuanced commentary on what it means to be a woman in a whimsical, wonderful and laugh-out-loud funny romp. The entire cast shines, especially Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in roles they were clearly born to play.”

Another was full of admiration for Gosling, declaring the movie to be, “his best role to date.”

“Greta Gerwig takes everything that has made him great in his previous films and combines them into a Super-Gosling,” he wrote.

“The Oscar buzz is real, and if it happens it would be one of the most fun and inspired nominations in recent memory.”
