This overpriced eatery needs a wake-up call.
Hide restaurant in London serves a scrambled eggs and toast meal for $73. The costly menu has many restaurantgoers perplexed by the egregiously overvalued simple dish.
The Michelin-starred restaurant, known for its fine dining experience, sparked controversy online last year for serving scrambled eggs and toast for $40.
But if that price wasn’t shocking enough, Hide then decided to incorporate truffles into the dish, increasing the price to $45 — and if the customer wants precious white truffles, the order jumps to $73.
On social media, customers have meanwhile aired their grievance with the price hike for what many consider to be a “basic” — even “tasteless,” according to one reviewer — dish.
“Simply adding truffle to bread doesn’t automatically elevate one to the status of a chef,” said one person.
“The pricing was exceptionally high without any apparent justification,” added another.
“No amount of shaved truffles can make up for the fact that this toast is $40 each,” declared a restaurant-goer.
While some people have no interest in splurging on high-priced breakfast, others can’t wait for their next time at the Hide.
“Food on the pricey side, but you pay for the experience,” shared one person.
Another loyal customer deemed the dish a “must-try.”
While the reasoning behind the pricey dish is unexplained, inflation could be why the eggs have people’s pockets looking scrambled.
As previously reported by The Post, New Yorkers faced a price surge in breakfast items such as eggs, butter, milk, coffee and bacon in 2022 with a combined 24% over the cost, according to data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Consumer Price Index.
More millennials expressed interest in staying at home instead of going out as one in five would rather enjoy a meal in than go to a restaurant, per new research. The rising cost of living contributes to the increasing trend of enjoying the comfort of your home with 63% of survey respondents saying they’re treating themselves at home more now due to inflation.
