Dave Portnoy, Barstool Sports barred from Colorado opener: Told ‘not to come’

There appears to be bad blood between Barstool Sports and the Colorado Buffaloes.

Barstool Sports founder, Dave Portnoy – who bought back the company from PENN Entertainment for $1 earlier this month — took to Twitter on Wednesday and claimed Colorado told him to not bother showing up at its home opener against Nebraska on Sept. 9.

“Colorado told us not to come,” Portnoy wrote. “So we pivoted.”

The Barstool boss was referring to the live show his company had planned on location in Boulder for the Colorado-Nebraska game.

Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders was seemingly clueless about the situation.

“What’s going on man,” the coach replied to Portnoy’s post. “You know y’all are family!”

That’s when Portnoy claimed Barstool got the boot because of Fox.

“I know,” Portnoy said in reply tweet. “I didn’t want to bother you.

“We were told not to come ’cause Fox was coming and they couldn’t give us a spot for the show. No clue who our people talked to. We’ll get there another time.”

In a separate tweet, Portnoy alluded to Fox’s alleged involvement in the situation.

“I’m guessing it has to do with FOX bringing Big Noon Kickoff to Boulder and CU not wanting a split crowd between the two,” user @IceColdSprts wrote.

“That was exactly it,” Portnoy replied.

Back in December, Portnoy posted Barstool’s plans for a live show on Twitter.

At time, he shared the news in a tweet that included the Buffaloes’ announcement that Sanders was taking over as head coach.

It’s unclear where Barstool pivoted to host their college football live show.

However, this likely isn’t the last Twitter has heard from Portnoy about the matter.

It’s been an eventful month for the polarizing entrepreneur.

Portnoy publicized the drama with Colorado the day after The Post reported that Barstool Sports will lay off nearly 25 percent of its employees on Thursday.

Before that, Portnoy ignited a social media war with the Savannah Bananas, the exhibition baseball team based in Savannah, Ga.

Portnoy founded Barstool Sports in 2003.

Penn Entertainment announced it was partnering with ESPN to rebrand its existing sportsbooks following the sale back to Portnoy.
