This precious pup is lapping up the praise.
A Midwest pooch named Rocky set a Guinness World Record for the longest tongue on a dog, measuring at 5.46 inches.
The Illinois canine, 9, is the beloved boxer of Brad and Crystal Williams and they applied after hearing about the death of the previous record holder, Mochi.
Rocky’s owners always knew the pup had an abnormally long tongue, but it wasn’t until they heard about the record that they realized they had a chance at winning.
“That’s when they said the new record was between three and four inches, and I said, ‘Oh my gosh, I think we have a shot, I have to look into this,’ ” Crystal told local outlet 25NewsNow.
But the submission process was tedious and extensive. The proud pup owner said she double- and triple-checked measurements before applying to the competition.
The response took months, she recalled.
“I talked to the vet, and he left me a message saying, I guess we’re measuring a tongue, and it was on!” she said. “That’s when it got exciting. We got witnesses, videographers and photographers.”
Guinness sent their own veterinarian, Dr. Bernard Bleem, to take measurements of the boxer’s tongue.
“Rocky is a great dog, he really deserves this,” Bleem said.
In fact, Rocky beat out the recently crowned title holder, Zoey, who achieved the impressive feat earlier this month.
The Labrador/German shepherd mix, who is 3 years old, is the proud owner of a 5-inch tongue.
“It has been a lot of fun,” Crystal said. “It’s just fun to laugh at too, it’s like oh my gosh, look at his tongue!”
