Mayor Eric Adams was a no-show at this year’s Met Gala honoring the late designer Karl Lagerfeld — after hizzoner made a splash at the annual soiree last year with a colorful tux.
Last year, New York’s mayor sported an “End Gun Violence” tuxedo, a political stunt that bared similarities to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s 2021 “Eat the Rich” gown.
The 2022 Met Gala marked the first year Eric Adams earned an invite to the coveted benefit, and brought along his partner Tracey Collins. Adam’s tailcoat was adorned with faces representing the children who lost their lives to gun violence.
The mayor was lauded for his “great sense of style” by his press secretary Fabien Levy.
“He wants to send a message specifically. One of the things that is causing problems in our society is gun violence,” Levy told The Post last year of Adams, whose latest endeavors have revolved around pest control as Manhattan’s rodent infestation worsens.
His invite to the “Super Bowl of fashion” is no surprise – he’s rubbed elbows with the likes of Naomi Campbell, A$AP Rocky, Cara Delevingne, and even the Met Gala’s warden herself, Anna Wintour.
Politicians have been known to attend the Met Gala, which is mostly riddled with notable designers and A-listers.
Last year, former First Lady and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton appeared on the red carpet in a maroon Joseph Altuzarra gown – but it had a twist. The names of renowned women in American history were hand-embroidered on the dress.
