Fried chicken chain puts hilarious typo in sign: ‘Ridiculous and sad!’

More like Bo-jumbles.

A Bojangles Cajun restaurant undergoing renovations near Raleigh, North Carolina, accidentally misspelled the chain’s name on an outdoor sign as seen in hilarious photos blowing up online.

“I saw the sign and I was looking at it, and I’m like, ‘It’s not right,’” eyewitness Gonzalez Espinosa told USA Today of the recent incident.

He saw the botched signage while landscaping near the chain’s Knightdale outlet, which has been undergoing renovations since fall.

“We were made aware that the sign was installed, and they understood at the time that it was starting to go viral,” declared chain Chief Operating Officer Kenny Avery. Gonzalez Garden Landscape LLC

Espinosa confirmed the misspelling by typing “Bojagnles” — the flub in question — into a Google search before alerting staffers so they could fix the typo before reopening.

However, Espinosa couldn’t resist sharing Facebook photos of the glaring error, which evokes a knockoff restaurant in another country. They have since been deleted — but not before amassing thousands of shares on the platform.

“Remodeled Bojangles in Knightdale has a little spelling twist to it … just scan the photo,” wrote the Knightdale Wendell Zebulon Community Facebook group in a post.

“Is that Spanish?” quipped one bemused commenter, while another wrote, “Sign guy has 1 job.”

Meanwhile, a third went much further and blamed the flub on the modern education system.

“This is what you get with a generation of kids that pretty much texted and weren’t taught proper grammar in school,” they suggested. “Now a lot of them are our kid’s teachers who can’t even spell properly on papers sent home.

The sloppy signage eventually caught the attention of the Bojangles brass.

“We were made aware that the sign was installed and they understood at the time that it was starting to go viral,” declared chain Chief Operating Officer Kenny Avery. “We contacted our sign vendor, they came back out within a couple hours, and they had it corrected.”

It appears they caught the gaffe just in time: The outlet was slated to reopen in April after being closed for remodeling since November 2023.

Thankfully, the Bojangles boss has learned to see the funny side of the hilarious incident.

“We have a great following in our market with our customers,” said Avery. “They love our brand, and we love that they were having some fun with it.
