Holiday Hometown Hook-up survey finds most will seek casual sex while home for the holidays

There’s no place like home for the holidays, especially if you’re single.

A new survey revealed that nearly 60% of travelers plan to have “casual sex” while visiting their hometown this month, while 70% of respondents admitted to fooling around at home in past years.

Conducted by Everlywell, the poll asked 850 singles aged 18 to 44 about their X-rated festivities this winter, and more than half of bachelors had “more casual sex” than normal while home for the holidays while only 35% of women reported the same.

“People hook up for all kinds of reasons: loneliness, nostalgia, boredom, horniness,” clinical psychologist and sex therapist Sarah E. Wright, who was not involved in the survey, told Yahoo News regarding the data.

But at the end of the day, it may just be a way to spread some Christmas cheer.

“Let’s face it: Most people have sex because it feels good,” she said.

Fret not, parents — your adult kids aren’t necessarily getting it on under your roof. Only 10% would dare do the dirty in their family home, while 24% would opt for the other person’s house or even book a hotel. A 2015 Zipcar survey also revealed that one in 10 Americans prefer a roadside “quickie” while traveling.

But, Wright said, “chemistry with another human feels good, regardless of how it happens” — and with whom.

“Some hookups may be an attempt to recapture the essence of youth or the spark of a past relationship,” Wright explained. “Others may be embracing a longed-for opportunity that never came to be, especially for those who feel they missed out on something or someone.”

While it hometown hookups can be nostalgic, some singles prefer the excitement of a new fling — 66% to be exact. According to the survey, a quarter of singles are perusing dating apps, and nearly the same number are prowling local bars for their festive flame.

“The excitement of meeting someone new can be just as intoxicating,” Wright said.

If all else fails, though, 40% of women were more likely to phone their ex, while only 25% of men would do the same.

“Knowing someone for a long time can lead to feelings of comfort or trust, both of which can enhance attraction and arousal,” she added.
