I had a ‘nesting party’ instead of a baby shower — it was way more supportive

It takes a village, as they say.

Do yourself a favor and avoid the monotony of present opening. Opt for a “nesting party” instead, during which — rather than bassinets, rattles and Diaper Genies — your loved ones show up on your doorstep armed with helpful vacuums, dusters and mops ahead of childbirth.

Preparing the house for the baby’s arrival — cleaning, cooking, organizing and decorating — is difficult when the “nesting” phase hits in the third trimester.

To remedy the colossal challenge, when one clever TikToker hosted a “nesting party,” her loved ones arrived armed with freezer meals, cleaning supplies and a detailed list of the household chores that needed to be completed.

“I don’t like baby showers. I don’t like being the center of attention. I don’t like playing dumb games,” mom-of-three Nia Lui emphatically said in a four-minute TikTok video. “I just don’t. I don’t.”

Now on their third baby, the she and her husband “have everything” they need for another child. In other words, no need for the onslaught of presents.

Instead of “playing dumb games” at a shower, the mom-of-three opted for a “nesting party.”

“It’s just like being a village and being a community of just helping each other do stuff,” she said.

“So, I told my best friend that instead of her planning a baby shower for me, she could plan a nesting party for me, where we can just get things done,” continued Lui, who appears to have just given birth mere days ago.

In lieu of gifts — save for a few who also arrived with baby clothes — the mama enlisted her friends and family to organize every cupboard and closet, clean every surface and floor, and hang up decor in the nursery.

It warmed her heart, she added, to see her loved ones come together to clean her space ahead of giving birth.

“We got so much done and it just made me feel so at peace in my own home,” Lui said. “And [it was] way better than a baby shower.”

Now, she’s spearheading the movement to make mom-in-arms cleaning parties a “trend.”

“It’s just like being a village and being a community of just helping each other do stuff,” she said.

Fellow mamas applauded the unique idea — and some even expressed they would much rather clean than watch hours of present-opening.

“I refuse to go to baby showers but I would show up early for a nesting party,” one eager cleaner wrote.

“Honestly I’d prefer doing this to sitting for three hours watching someone open presents,” another person said.

“This is literally the most amazing idea ever,” one person praised.

“Can I have this instead of a birthday party???” quipped someone else.
