If you’ve ever been frustrated that the cabin crew of a plane won’t help you stow your carry-on luggage, you’re not alone — but there’s a good reason.
A flight attendant, who frequently shares the secrets of the job on TikTok, has let people in on why they won’t help with your bags.
The user, Cierra Mistt, revealed that flight attendants don’t get paid until all passengers are on board and the plane doors are shut.
“That being said, there’s a reason why we tell you we cannot help you life your bags up,” she began.
“If we get hurt, we don’t have workers’ [compensation] because we’re not on the clock yet.”
Another flight attendant Kat Kamalani backed up her claim, saying: “Everyone thinks it’s the flight attendant’s job to lift your luggage into the bins, but it’s not.”
“Actually, our airline, and a ton of other airlines, tell you ‘do not do this’ because you get so many injuries from it. And you’re not even covered,” she said, according to The Mirror.
People in the comments were shocked about the revelation.
“The pay situation sucks. You should be getting paid the moment you step foot on that plane not when the doors close,” one person wrote.
The TikTokker also revealed that flight attendants can unlock the restroom doors from the outside in case of emergency.
