Influencer María Fernanda Robles, stepdaughter of beloved Mexican singer Luis Ángel “El Flaco,” drowned just hours after she was seen partying with friends in the popular beach resort of Mazatlan. She was 21 years old.
In the final, heartbreaking post before her death, the vivacious youngster had uploaded a bikini snap to Instagram with the caption “free and wild.”
Ángel confirmed the tragic news in a statement.
“Dear friends, family and colleagues from the press, with deep sadness I have to announce the departure of my daughter María Fernanda,” the bereaved entertainer wrote, per local media. “It is the greatest pain one can feel. I appreciate all the messages of support and love I have received.”
He added, “I beg for your understanding of the deep pain I’m feeling at this moment and I appreciate your empathy for respecting my privacy.”
According to Jam Press, the drowning occurred on August 14 at 4:40am, after Robles entered the sea with at least two other friends in the popular beach resort in Sinaloa state.
The investigation is ongoing but reports say the influencer was intoxicated at the time of the accident.
Friends reportedly saw the social media star’s body washing up on the beach and dialed emergency services.
Another friend also got into trouble in the surf, but was subsequently dragged to safety on Cerritos Beach.
This marked a tragic end for the reveler, who frequently posted travel and partying snaps to her Instagram account, where she boasted over 26,000 followers.
Robles, who was studying cosmetology, was the daughter of Mari Cruz Robles, who had her before she met Luis Ángel.
While the singer wasn’t her biological parent, he raised Robles as his own and remained a father figure up until her untimely death.
Prior to the divorce, El Flaco had two other daughters with the youngster’s mom, Ángela, 19, and Luis, 13.
Ángel is the former vocalist of Los Recoditos, a popular band formed in 1989 that has been credited with reimagining banda (traditional Mexican music) for younger generations.
