J.J. Watt signs with CBS Sports as NFL studio analyst

CBS Sports is now in the J.J. Watt business.

Fresh off retirement from the NFL, the 34-year-old Watt has landed with CBS as a highly sought-after sports media free agent.

“I love the game too much to be away from it entirely,” Watt said in a statement. “I’m very excited to be joining CBS Sports to contribute across all their NFL shows and platforms, including working alongside and learning from JB [James Brown], Coach [Bill Cowher], Boomer [Esiason], Phil [Simms] and Nate [Burleson] this fall.

“Hopefully fans will enjoy the insights and knowledge I’ve gained over my 12 years in the NFL, and if we’re lucky, we’ll share a few laughs along the way as well.”

The 2011 first-round pick by the Texans has had plenty of experience throughout his 12-year career, where he was a five-time All-Pro and three-time Defensive Player of the Year.

There was rarely an offensive tackle that could even hope to contain him, with his nickname, “J.J. Swat,” ringing throughout the NFL.

Injuries were the only thing that could really stop him, but even that rarely stopped Watt from being on the field.

He is known for being one of the toughest NFL players in recent memory, playing through injuries and pain throughout his career.

You may remember Watt wore a large black brace on his left arm at different points during his career in an attempt to keep him in games.

Watt also underwent two back surgeries, admitting that he returned too soon from the initial surgery that was supposed to repair a herniated disk in July 2016.

He played just two months later at the beginning of the season in September before undergoing a second back surgery on Sept. 29, 2016.

Watt would go through a brutal injury to end his 2021-22 season that beat up his shoulder again.

“I mean, basically what happened was the shoulder dislocated out the back, took everything with it on the way out,” Watt explained to media after a with the Cardinals. “Rotator cuff, labrum, capsule, infraspinatus, all that, everything … gone. I also dislocated my bicep tendon in the process.”

Watt returned to form as a member of the Cardinals’ defense last year, when he had 12.5 sacks, good enough for eighth in the NFL.

The Post’s Andrew Marchand reported in February that Watt would be in high demand from the likes of NBC, CBS and FOX for a potential deal to land his service.

“He has the look of Fox’s Howie Long, an all-time defensive end with a presence in the studio,” Marchand wrote.
