Matthew Perry‘s mother, Suzanne Perry, and stepdad, Keith Morrison, were spotted taking a walk with their dog in LA on Friday.
The couple were photographed close to their home nearly a week after the “Friends” star died of an apparent drowning on Saturday.
During the outing, they spent time with some of their children and stopped into a local cafe.
“We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of our beloved son and brother,” Perry’s family said in a statement to People on Sunday. “Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend. You all meant so much to him and we appreciate the tremendous outpouring of love.”
As previously reported, Perry was found underwater in his hot tub on Saturday. Officials told The Post that they received a phone call reporting that he was not breathing. The caller’s identity has not been revealed by authorities, though TMZ reported it was Perry’s assistant.
The Los Angeles Fire Department arrived at 4:07 p.m. and the Los Angeles Police Department at 4:10 p.m. Authorities later put up a large white tent next to the scene in the backyard, and his body was removed from the home that night.
“An adult male patient was deceased prior to first response arrival,” the LAFD said in a statement obtained by The Post. “The patient was found by a bystander who had re-positioned the victim where the head was out of water.”
The statement continued: “Firefighters pulled the victim out of the jacuzzi and did a quick medical assessment to find he was deceased.”
Suzanne and “Dateline” host Morrison were spotted arriving to the actor’s residence in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of LA on Saturday shortly after news broke of his passing. They were joined by the star’s dad, actor John Bennett Perry.
Morrison gushed over his stepson in a interview with People in 2020.
“He’s one of those people who always is the center of the room for a reason, and it was so as a kid. On the hockey team, I used to take him off to his hockey games on Saturday mornings. It was like Matthew and the hockey team. He was the one who scored all the goals. He was the guy. The same on the tennis court. He was extremely, extremely good on the tennis court and very intense. He’s an intense, talented, focused character,” Morrison said. “He’s very bright. That was always the case as he was growing up.”
Regarding his beloved role as Chandler Bing on “Friends,” Morrison said Matthew’s success didn’t surprise him.
“He was at a stage where [he was questioning] if this acting thing was going to work or not. Then suddenly, boy did it ever. A million things have sprung from that, but him being selected for a role like that does not surprise me one bit,” he continued. “It matched his particular sense of humor precisely, whether they wrote that for him knowing what he was like or whether he adapted it more for himself, probably a combination of the two. But that character is Matthew. Yeah, and it always has been him. He’s just a talented soul, a smart guy.”
He added: “We love having him around.”
The late actor is best known for playing Chandler from 1994 to 2004, alongside co-stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer.
Schwimmer, for his part, was spotted looking downcast in New York City on Monday following the news. Cox, 59, and LeBlanc, 56, were also later spotted for the first time during separate outings.
On Monday, the cast broke their silence over Perry’s death in a joint statement.
“We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just castmates. We are a family,” read their statement, obtained by People. “There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss.”
“In time we will say more, as and when we are able,” the statement concluded. “For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends and everyone who loved him around the world.”
