New York: the official state of the best male mullet in the US.
After 600 entries and three rounds of voting, a winner has been crowned in the 2022 USA Mullet Championship.
Scott Salvadore of Stillwater, New York, was announced as the tournament’s winner during The TODAY Show on Saturday.
The 34-year-old, who entered the competition as a Facebook Fan Vote Qualifier, received 3,740 votes and defeated finalists Dalton Cleghorn from Ohio, and Brandon Hernandez from Texas.
“The champ is here,” Salvadore wrote on Facebook following the win.
Referring to his flow as “The Lord’s Drapes,” Salvadore was ecstatically celebrating after he was announced as the winner.
“It feels like I just won a mullet championship. I brought the title to Stillwater,” Salvadore said when asked how he felt by one of the TODAY show’s hosts.
Cleghorn, who took second place, received 3,208 votes and Hernandez received 2,855 votes to earn the bronze.
Along with a trophy and bragging rights over every mullet in the US, Salvadore will receive $2,500 and sponsorship packages.
Prior to his big win, it was revealed that Salvadore had cut off his original mullet before his marriage. But once he tied the knot, it was full speed ahead for him to grow out his championship-winning mullet.
“I felt like a part of me died,” Salvadore said when asked about how it felt being mullet-less.
Salvadore joins the ranks of Emmitt Baily, who took home the prize of best kid’s mullet, and Cayden Kershaw, who won best teen mullet in Aug. 2022.
When asked how having a mullet made him feel, Salvadore cited fictional mullet icon Kenny Powers.
“As far as happiness goes, I think mullets are a lot like jet skis and to quote my fellow brother in ‘Mulletdom,’ Kenny Powers, ‘I’ve never seen a sad person on a jet ski.’”
