Though short-lived, former professional snowboarder Shaun White was able to live out his acting dreams in Paramount+’s new comedy/mystery “Reunion.”
“He wasn’t supposed to be in the movie,” Nina Dobrev, who plays Amanda Tanner in the film, exclusively told the Post. “The scene was actually born from him coming to visit me on set.”
White played himself in “Friends with Benefits” (2011) alongside Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake. He expressed to Dobrev and the crew that he “loved” the experience, but he wanted to “not be me next time.”
Dobrev and the crew proposed White take part in “Reunion” right then and there.
“Why don’t you do something in this movie?” they asked to which White immediately responded: “Let’s do it.”
“Reunion” follows former high school classmates at their 20th reunion as they uncover the murder of one of their own, Mathew Danbury (Chace Crawford), while snowed-in at his home the morning after the big party.
The camera pans to White when the former classmates quickly get wild at their party. The athlete is seen chugging alcohol out of bottles duct taped to his hands alongside former classmate Ray Hammond (Lil Rel Lowry).
It was a “quick little fun” moment after “we just threw a line at him,” Dobrev told the Post.
“I wasn’t in the scene with him, but it was fun,” she told the Post.
Dobrev, 35, and White, 37, initially met during a brief encounter at an awards show in 2012, but weren’t formally introduced until 2019. In April 2020, fans were quick to notice White’s tattooed arm in an April 2020 Instagram post that Dobrev shared at the time.
Offscreen, White has been supporting Dobrev as she recovers from a dirt-biking accident she was in at the end of May. Dobrev sustained injuries to her knee, ACL, meniscus, and has undergone surgery since.
To cheer her up, White channeled her “The Vampire Diaries” days, dancing around in a sweatshirt with “Elena Gilbert” in bold across the chest. In 2022, White revealed he watched “TVD” for the first time in a TikTok after the couple was separated because of COVID-19.
Discussing their future, White told People that he feels “no pressure” to propose to Dobrev — but teased at the possibility.
“But I told her, I was like, ‘Look, after the Olympics, I finally got my freedom to do whatever. And let’s just have fun and be together and support each other,’” he said in May 2023. “We’ll see what happens.”
White previously dated Phantogram vocalist Sarah Barthel for five years until 2018.
Dobrev, for her part, was in a three-year relationship with her “TVD” costar Ian Somerhalder from 2010 to 2013.
“Reunion” is available for streaming on June 28 on Paramount +.
