A “Wheel of Fortune” contestant’s chance at thousands of dollars went down the drain when she couldn’t solve a bonus round puzzle — and flustered host Pat Sajak in the process.
The only thing separating contestant Kate from big money on a recent episode of the beloved gameshow was a four-letter word that started with “lea.”
While working against a 10-second timer, Kate guessed everything from “moving a leaf” to“raking a leaf” but failed to realize that the word was actually “leak.”
“Fixing a leak,” Kate repeated once given the answer. “I kept thinking of doing something else with a leak and I didn’t think that was it.”
The off-the-cuff comment was enough for Sajak to stare into the camera and drop his cue cards as the studio audience caught on to the joke.
“Excuse me. These get heavy sometimes,” he deadpanned as he bent down to scoop up the cards and Kate laughed, burying her face in her hands.
At least the 76-year-old host had a witty comeback this time. He wasn’t as quick on Monday’s episode, during which a contestant revealed her unique and lucrative hobby of milking goats and making soap out of it.
“You milk goats? And you make — wait,” Sajak asked, referring back to his cue cards. “Milk — goat milk soup? Not soup — soap!”
“Goat milk soap,” Laura assured him. “It’s supposed to be really good for your skin. It’s really moisturizing. We’ve got three goats we milk every night.”
“Well, good,” he replied.
