Ray Liotta’s cause of death revealed one year later

Just a year after his passing, Ray Liotta’s cause of death has been disclosed.

The “Goodfellas” icon died in his sleep from pulmonary edema and acute heart failure, according to documents obtained by TMZ.

The outlet reported that Lotta had fluid in his lungs, suffered from repository issues and his death was “categorized as natural and nonviolent.”

The publication also noted that Liotta was battling atherosclerosis, a condition where one’s arteries become thick leading to plaque buildup.

Liotta was just 67 years old when he died in May 2022 and was in the middle of filming his movie “Dangerous Waters” in the Dominican Republic.

At the time of his death, the “Field of Dreams” alum was engaged to fiancée Jacy Nittolo and his 24-year-old daughter, Karsen.

Liotta filmed a multitude of projects before he died such as the TV series “Black Bird” for Apple, Elizabeth Banks’ horror comedy “Cocaine Bear” and the satire “Fool’s Paradise.”

As for “Dangerous Waters,” the thriller has yet to have a release date and is directed by John Barr. Eric Dane, Saffron Burrows and Odeya Rush co-star.

The New Jersey native was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this past February, with Karsen paying a beautiful tribute to her late dad.

“I’m so touched to be accepting this honor on behalf of my dad. I couldn’t be more proud of him,” she said during the Los Angeles ceremony. “He was a one-of-a-kind actor and the best friend, brother and father anyone could have asked for. I lucked out with you.”

“If you have a Ray in your life, you’re lucky. I love you so much,” she added. “Thank you for your work and the imprint you left on me and all of those who love you. Everyone deserves a Ray in their life.”

Following Liotta’s death, Nittolo, 48, posted a series of photos of herself with him and looked back on their relationship.

“My life these past couple of years have been nothing but truly magical,” she began her emotional caption.

“Ray and I share a deep love that I will cherish in my heart forever. We laughed daily and we were inseparable. The chemistry was wild in the best way. He was everything in the world to me and we couldn’t get enough of each other. The kind of real love that one dreams of.”

“He was the most beautiful person inside and out that I’ve ever known…and even that is an understatement.”
