Ryan Reynolds, Rob McElhenney detail ‘monarchy boot camp’ from King Charles’ Wrexham visit

Reynolds and McElhenney gave the royals a tour of the Racecourse Ground — the world’s oldest international soccer stadium.

“Rob and Ryan get a crash course in royal etiquette,” the show’s social media page stated, showing the pair hiring a coach to help them walk, shake hands, and sit appropriately in the presence of the King.

“I feel like a serial killer,” Reynolds can be heard saying in the clip.

“Everything starts with a first impression,” their etiquette coach told him and the “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” creator.

But it seems as though McElheeny, 46, didn’t find it easy adjusting to royal protocol, admitting, “I think I am going have a hard time with this.”

“The idea of bowing to somebody. It triggers something,” he adds.

Elsewhere, Humphrey Ker, Wrexham’s executive director, mentioned the importance of impressing the monarchy due to their links to the UK government.

“We are trying to get $25 million worth of Kop [stadium seating] funding from the UK government. Two years of work has gone into lining up all the pieces of the puzzle to try and get this funding and that will give us an extra 5,500 seats,” he says.

“It will also give us a stadium that is deemed to be of international standards so we can bring Welsh football back to the Racecourse. It’s the biggest and most expensive piece of the endeavor.”

Despite their initial concerns, the royal visit proved to be a success.

“A little earlier today, I had the opportunity to see one of the other wonders of Wrexham, namely the football club, which is busy putting Wrexham on the map as never before,” King Charles was heard telling dignitaries during the visit.

“We’ll do anything to uplift and elevate this community and this club and having the King pay a visit is certainly one way to do it, that’s for sure,” Reynolds said in December.
