Being an NFL wife isn’t for the weak.
Influencer and TikTok star Chanen Johnson, who’s married to Saints tight end Juwan Johnson, recalled the moment that “broke” her when she saw him get injured during a recent away game when she was at home with their infant daughter.
“Worst day ever honestly,” she captioned a recent video on the couple’s joint TikTok account, which showed her fighting back tears. “Sometimes I hate football. You literally can’t tell, but I’m literally still shaking.
“It has been a wild 30 minutes. I think one of the worst experiences you can have as an NFL wife is literally watching your man slayed down on the field. Oh my gosh, that literally just broke me.”
Chanen explained that she confirmed Johnson was OK before she filmed the video.
She did not say which game the injury happened in, though Johnson left a Nov. 26 loss to the Falcons in Atlanta after a hard hit.
He returned to the game after being evaluated by team doctors.
“Tell me why my man is the one lying on the floor of the literal field, not getting up,” she said. “This is what happens when you don’t go to away games.”
Chanen recalled scrolling on social media trying to find out any details about her husband’s condition.
“He goes into a [medical] tent, right,” she said. “I’m over here refreshing Twitter (now X), which I do not go on Twitter during games. Every [NFL] wife knows, don’t go on Twitter during a football game.
“People that don’t know football really try and bring you down. I’m refreshing Twitter to find out what the heck is going on.”
Chanen went on to explain that Johnson “banged his head” during the game.
“Thankfully I found out that he was sitting on the sidelines, which I mean, cool,” she said. “… I think they checked him for a concussion.”
Chanen said she called Johnson “a thousand times” during the game and he couldn’t pick up for obvious reasons while she was at home with their daughter J’Adore, whom they welcomed in July.
“Literally I sat there and I was like, wow I would be fine if he retired tomorrow,” she said. “I really hate this feeling so much.
“… From what I know he’s OK. Football gives me wrinkles so the NFL should be covering the cost of my botox at this point.”
Johnson and Chanen, who met when they were both students at Penn State, celebrated their third wedding anniversary in February.
They dated for nearly three years before tying the knot in February 2020.
In March, Johnson signed a two-year contract extension with New Orleans worth $12 million with $8.5 million guaranteed.
The Saints (5-7) host the Carolina Panthers (1-11) on Dec. 10.
