The president of the Chiefs believes Travis Kelce can shake off all the extra attention coming from his rumored relationship with Taylor Swift, and continue to excel on the football field.
Mark Donovan, who joined the Chiefs as chief operating officer in 2009 and was elevated to president in 2011, spoke to PEOPLE about his expectation that Kelce can handle all of the publicity that comes from apparently dating the songstress.
“Travis is a smart team player,” says Donovan of the Chiefs tight end. “He can handle it and has been very professional.”
Donovan continued to say that Kelce is “focused on the right things and doing it the right way,” and he added that “our locker room has the maturity, leadership and respect to handle it.”
For his part, Kelce expressed his opinion that the NFL broadcast partners have been “overdoing” all the shots of Swift cheering him on the last two weeks in games against the Bears and Jets.
“They are overdoing it a bit for sure, especially my situation,” Travis Kelce told his brother Jason on their “New Heights” podcast earlier this week. “They’re just trying to have fun with it.”
He was informed that NBC showed Swift at least 17 times during Sunday night’s game.
“Damn, that’s crazy,” Travis said. “That’s like once a drive.”
Kelce spoke to reporters this week about being on cloud nine over the relationship.
“I was on top of the world after the Super Bowl, and right now even more on top of the world, so it’s fun man,” Kelce told reporters, noting that he still is learning how to cope with all of the paparazzi attention.
“At the same time, [the attention] comes with it. You’ve got a lot of people that care about Taylor, for good reason. So… just gotta keep living and earning and enjoying the moments.
“At the end of the day I’ve always been pretty good about compartmentalizing and being able to stay focused in this building and I’ll just keep rolling with that.”
