John Boyega Says He Won’t Return to ‘Star Wars’ Franchise

John Boyega became an international breakout star playing Finn in the “Star Wars” sequel trilogy. But the actor, who starred in the upcoming films “Breaking” and “The Woman King,” isn’t much interested in returning to the galactic franchise.

“At this point I’m taking it cool. I’m good at it,” Boyega said on SiriusXM’s “Tell Me Everything with John Fugelsang.” “I think Finn is at a good confirmation point where you can, among other things, You can enjoy it in games, animation. but I think so'[Episode] VII’ to'[Episode] IX’ was good for me.”

Boyega said: “To be fair, [with] Joel Taylor and Jamie Foxx, Teyona Parris, Viola Davis, all of these guys I’ve found collaborators with… Versatility is my path. ,

Boyega also discussed his experience facing racism in the “Star Wars” fantasy, an issue that “Obi-Wan Kenobi” star Moses Ingram tackled earlier this year. Disney and Obi-Wan himself, Ewan McGregor, came to Ingram’s defense and publicly condemned the racist backlash he was receiving.

“Moses Ingram’s defense makes me feel safe. You understand what I’m saying? It makes me feel like, ‘Okay, cool. I’m not the elephant in the room.’ Because when I started, it wasn’t really a conversation you could bring up,” Boyega said. “You know how they went through it. It was something like, Let’s shut up. It wasn’t a conversation you can bring up. But now seeing how obvious it is, seeing Ewan McGregor coming and supporting do… for me, [it] Where I didn’t get support, I spend my time there.”

Boyega continued: “It doesn’t sound bitter to me at all. It makes me feel like you’re that guy sometimes. And my dad taught me. Sometimes you’re not the person to be blessed and sometimes- Sometimes you are Moses, you know, you lead people to the mountain, but you see the destination. You don’t need to go in, you tell others to go in. And that’s where you get your happiness. And other people accepted to see me, and then at the same time to see that the studios are now like, ‘Okay, cool. This isn’t the elephant in the conversation room. We need to support our Black clients.’ needed.’ It’s great.”
