Kelly Clarkson hinted that her messy divorce from Brandon Blackstock contributed to her decision to leave The Voice.
The 40-year-old surprised fans of the competition when news broke this May that she was vacating her coaching position after eight seasons.
Now that she prepares to take over Ellen DeGeneres’ time slot in autumn, Kelly, who left Brandon in June 2020, has moved on today And said she pulled out of The Voice so that she could take a summer break after a ‘tough two years’.

Kelly revealed that she last got free heat at the age of 16, four years before she rose to fame for winning the first season of American Idol.
She admitted, ‘And I don’t think it’s common for a lot of working people – you don’t usually get summer vacation, like, until you’re in high school.
‘But like I just didn’t, I didn’t have a minute, and it’s obviously been a tough two years. So it was really important for me to shut down for a minute.’
With her newfound downtime, she was ‘literally a four-wheeler in the mountains’. Like, it really is, and as we go along – there’s a lot of water on my property.’

Recharge: Kelly went on TODAY this week to say she’s dropped out of The Voice so she can take summer vacation after a ‘tough two years’.
She revealed that ‘my sister and my nephew and I and a few friends literally spent the whole summer in the mountains’ and had to be ‘out in nature’.
Travel to the countryside made it easier for Kelly and Brandon’s children Rivers, eight, and Remington, six, to spend time with both parents.
“And the kids were with me, and with their father, and it was cool because they usually had to travel a lot because of our separation, so we were both in Montana,” she said. ‘So it was really, it felt at first, like, I think my kids were feeling a little bit more focused too, so that was cool.’
Per the custody agreement, the children spend one weekend a month with their father at the former couple’s Montana ranch, where Brandon currently lives.

At one point, despite being in primary custody, Kelly found herself on the hook for a cumulative $200,000 a month in husband and child support.
When they finalized the divorce, it emerged that Kelly would have to pay more than $46,601 in monthly child support on top of a one-time payment of $1,326,161.
They also had to ‘reimburse’ Brandon $50,000 for private air travel for children who had to fly private until they were vaccinated for COVID-19.
Kelly, who is set to move into Ellen DeGeneres’ time slot this autumn, reportedly earns an annual salary of $22.8 million.
