Richard Simmons has broken his 6-year silence, with his spokesman telling The Post that the beloved fitness icon is “living the life he has chosen to live.”
Simmons’ rep, Tom Astie, spoke Friday after the release of a new documentary about the workout king’s sudden disappearance from the spotlight.
“Richard is forever grateful for the continued outpouring of love and gratitude from around the world,” Estee told The Post. “He is happy, healthy and living the life he has chosen to live.”
On Wednesday, 74-year-old Simmons published his short note on Facebook, simply saying: “Thank you all, for your kindness and love. Love, Richard.”
Estée confirmed that the message was personally composed by Simmons, and was her first public correspondence with fans in 6 years.
Simmons was one of Hollywood’s biggest stars for more than three decades before suddenly disappearing from the public eye in 2014.
Interest in the effervescent exercise icon has resumed this week, following the release of the new doc “TMZ Investigates: What Really Happened to Richard Simmons.”
The special, streaming on Fox and Hulu, claims that the star’s knee problem was behind her sudden exit from the spotlight.
Simmons hasn’t been seen in public since 2014, but he called the Today Show back in 2016 to refute wild rumors that he was being held hostage by his housekeeper.
Fans were thrilled to hear that Simmons was in good health and high spirits, with thousands of people responding to his Facebook message.
“I knew it was you, Richard!” A fan chimed in. “Love you so much, please never doubt it. You’ve done so much good in the lives of so many. Thank you for everything you’ve done and still are doing. None of us will ever love you.” Won’t forget!”
Another shouted: “We miss you Richard but hope you’re doing what’s right for you. You’ve given me so much joy over the years, now’s your time, you deserve peace and happiness.” Thank you for saving my life over and over again, I am forever grateful to you.”
