California officials found a country guitarist and his wife dead on a road near the Mojave Desert last week.
The late Larry Petrie and his wife of 60 years, Betty Petrie, were reportedly found dead in their vehicle in a remote area of Kern County, Petrie’s cousin Laurie Sanders told The Bakersfield Calif.
“What were they doing there? They don’t travel that far from home,” Sanders told the outlet, noting that Petrie got lost on the way to a music gig weeks ago.
The department said in a press release that the Kern County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) deputy found Larry Petrie sitting in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, and that he found Betty Petrie leaning against the rear tire. Detectives of the murder were not called to the spot.

“At this time there is no evidence to suggest that there is anything criminal about these deaths,” KCSO Public Information Officer Lori Meza told Fox News Digital.
Photographer Debbie Bohn, owner of BScene Event Photography, told Fox News Digital that Steele guitarist Larry Petrie was a “true county gentleman”.

“He was one of Bakersfield’s best! He was funny and friendly and always flashed his genuine smile,” he wrote in a Facebook post. “They will both be greatly missed! … Praying for the family and all the friends whose lives they have touched. May they RIP together.”
The Kern County Coroner’s Office has not released the results of the autopsy as of Friday afternoon.
