Aaron Rodgers has revealed he is a fan of “Jersey Shore,” and Jets fans are hoping he can mimic the show’s celebratory fist pumps with frequency.
Rodgers, 39, was asked during a Jets press conference on Tuesday about how New Jersey is living up to his expectations, and he admitted that he didn’t know what to expect.
“The only thing I kind of knew about, besides Teterboro [Airport] was ‘Jersey Shore,’” Rodgers answered.
“I was assured that was not a proper representation of this great state, but I’ve had a good time.”
Rodgers continued that the people have been very nice to him, he feels great about being near New York City.
A reporter followed up to ask the quarterback if this answer meant that he wasn’t a fan of Snooki.
Rodgers said that actually he was a fan of the whole show, and revealed another generational gap in entertainment knowledge with one of his teammates.
“I was walking out to practice today and the media are here, always doing different videos and things, and the video [prompt] was, ‘Do your best ‘Jersey Shore’ impression,” Rodgers said.
“I just kind of laughed to it, and then [tight end] C.J. Uzomah was walking next to me and he said he’d never watched the show. I said, ‘How can you not watch the show? One of the greatest shows back when MTV actually used to have content on it. It’s phenomenal.’
“I’m a fan of all of them. I actually went to Pauly D’s set in Vegas back when I used to go there a few times a year, back in 2011 or so.”
Earlier this month, Rodgers razzed star second-year defensive back Sauce Gardner, 22, about not knowing who Jessica Alba is when all three were courtside at a Knicks playoff game, and Alba responded with some friendly banter on social media.
The awareness gap with Uzomah is a little bit more surprising, as the tight end is 30 years old, so the show would have been at its peak in the zeitgeist at a time — 2009-12 — where you’d think he would’ve been exposed to it as a teen.
