Derek Jeter gifted crown for Fox MLB debut with Alex Rodriguez, David Ortiz: ‘The king’

Derek Jeter began his new gig with Fox just like he spent much of his career — with distaste for the Red Sox.

The legendary Yankees shortstop made his first appearance as an MLB analyst for the network Saturday afternoon ahead of the Cardinals-Cubs game from England as part of the London Series.

Jeter joined Kevin Burkhardt, former Yankees teammate Alex Rodriguez and former Red Sox great David “Big Papi” Ortiz on Fox’s top pregame show.

While introducing Jeter as a new member of the crew, Burkhardt asked Jeter “Hall of Fame, five-time World Series champ, front office CEO, where does sitting next two Big Papi on television rank in your life highlights?”

Jeter wasted no time sharing some fun with his former rival-turned-colleague.

“This is right there at the bottom guys,” Jeter joked, as Rodriguez and Ortiz burst out in laughter. “It doesn’t get any worse than this. No in all honesty, I’ve enjoyed getting to know Papi. I’ve known him obviously playing against him, but getting to know him the last few days here in London, which I’m sure we’ll see a little bit of later, it’s been awesome. I couldn’t wait for this to start, and I’m looking forward to it.”

Fox announced the Jeter hiring during its Super Bowl 2023 pregame show — he arrived on set with Alex Rodriguez, Michael Strahan and Curt Menefee to make the reveal.

Jeter, 48, has been more active in media since stepping down as the Miami Marlins’ CEO in Feb., 2022.

Along with “Big Papi,” Jeter, dubbed “The Captain” due to his captaining the Yankees during his career, own two of the most famous nicknames in baseball.

But now teammates, Ortiz revealed a new moniker for Jeter.

“You’re the captain, but I’ve got a gift for you,” Ortiz said, as he revealed a crown from underneath the desk. “Today, you’re the king. Put it on, man, you’re the king!”

The Post’s Andrew Marchand reported Fox got Rodriguez’s approval before hiring Jeter, as the two shared a rocky relationship while teammates with the Yankees.

But they’re now reunited, along with their formal nemesis, on the same team.
