Get your popcorn ready: the “Hard Knocks” cameras will be rolling into Florham Park.
After weeks of speculation, the NFL finally decided the HBO docu-series is best served chasing around new Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers and head coach Robert Saleh, as they look to grab massive ratings for the budding AFC contenders.
Jets fans seem to have mixed reactions to the news that HBO will be behind the scenes and airing out all of the team’s dirty laundry.
Gang Green’s last appearance on the show in 2010 featured an infamous, profanity-laced introductory speech to the team by then-coach, Rex Ryan.
“Let’s make sure we play like that f––king New York Jets and not some f––king slap d–k team,” Ryan memorably screamed at his team. “That’s what I want to see tomorrow. Do we understand what the f–k I want to see tomorrow? Let’s go eat a god damn snack.”
The Jets would go on to play in the AFC Championship game later that year, so there’s perhaps some historical success to replicate.
With Rodgers now in the mix following a franchise-altering trade in April, not to mention the young core of receiver Garrett Wilson, running backs Breece Hall and Michael Carter, along with brash cornerback Sauce Gardner, fans could be in for extra doses of their favorite personalities.
“Jets hard knocks should be must see tv,” one fan wrote on Twitter — a sentiment echoed over social media.
“I didn’t want the Jets to be on Hard Knocks, but I’m stoked that they are,” another fan chimed in. “2010 was amazing, and this team has just as much swagger and hype. It’s going to be must-watch TV.”
But not everyone is thrilled about the Jets being on “Hard Knocks” — including the team itself.
Saleh, for one, was upfront about not wanting cameras at training camp.
“I know there are several teams that would love for ‘Hard Knocks’ to be in their building. We’re just not one of them,” Saleh said.
New York radio legend Mike Francesa ripped the team as “complete fools” in a rant, claiming that doing the show at this point would be the “worst thing they can do right now.”
“If the Jets are thinking about [‘Hard Knocks’] in this season, with what they are hoping to accomplish, with what they are going to deal with in terms of attention, this is already, to me, a colossal mistake by ownership, general manager, head coach, whoever had input into this,” he said.
“Hard Knocks” typically airs on Tuesday nights beginning in August.
