The cause of death for actor Julian Sands, 65, has been deemed “undetermined” five months after he went missing on a California hike.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department explained that the death was ruled “undetermined due to the condition of the body and this is common when dealing with cases of this type,” according to People.
The British actor was reported missing by his wife Evgenia Citkowitz after going hiking on a Southern California mountain in January.
Authorities blamed severe weather, including high winds, poor visibility and icy conditions, for a difficult search.
Several months later, hikers contacted the Fontana Sheriff’s Station after they discovered human remains in the Mount Baldy wilderness which were later identified as Sands’.
Born Jan. 4, 1958, in West Yorkshire, he eventually moved to Los Angeles where he lived at the time of this death.
Sands started his acting career in the 1980s. He is known for his work in such films as “Arachnophobia,” “A Room with a View,” “Warlock” and “Leaving Las Vegas.”
He appeared on “24” in 2006 and on Season 8 of “Dexter” in 2013. He also voiced DeFalco in the “Call of Duty: Black Ops II” video game the prior year.
Sands was nominated for “Outstanding Solo Performance” at the 2013 Drama Desk Awards for his theatrical performance in “A Celebration of Harold Pinter.”
He has had two projects, “Seneca – On the Creation of Earthquakes” and “Double Soul” released since his death.
Sands married British journalist Sarah Harvey in 1984 and they had son Henry before divorcing in 1987. He married Citkowitz in 1990 and they had two daughters, Imogen and Natalya.
