You may know Bobby Lee as Carrie Bradshaw’s podcast friend Jackie Nee on “And Just Like That.”
But on the real-life podcast “Broad Ideas,” he discussed his experience with the “Sex and the City” reboot — and how it pushed him to get sober.
Though he may make it look easy to walk down the street in bright graphic prints and electric blue pants, he explained to host Rachel Bilson (“The O.C.”) that he was really struggling behind the scenes.
“I was in Hawaii and I was blackout drunk and my agent called and said, ‘They need you in New York,’” Lee, 51, recalled on the July 24 podcast episode. “This is one of the reasons why I’m sober … On the plane, I thought, ‘I’m just gonna get s–t faced,’ so I was in a blackout when we landed in New York.”
Lee explained that he only learned he was expected to film that day when he realized that his driver wasn’t taking him to his hotel.
“I remember going [to film “AJLT”] and being so high and drunk,” Lee said. “When I was reading the script, I couldn’t even understand what the f–k it was even saying. It was a nightmare. I remember thinking, ‘This is never going to happen again — I have to get sober.’”
The actor, known for his time as a cast member on “MADtv,” has now been sober for a year and a half.
After hearing his story, Bilson, 41, wondered aloud whether series star Sarah Jessica Parker realized that he was so out of it.
“No!” Lee exclaimed. “That could’ve been a career-ender … It was a huge opportunity. It’s insane what my disease does to me.”
Lee also took the opportunity to express admiration for Parker — though he admitted that he has a habit of accidentally calling Carrie Bradshaw “Connie.”
“I love her,” he said of Parker. “She’s so sweet.”
