Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner appeared in a New York City court Wednesday after the pair filed for an emergency hearing.
According to TMZ, the couple is fighting over whether or not the case will be settled in the US or the UK.
Should an American judge hear the divorce case, it is likely that Jonas, 34, will be able to retain custody of his two daughters and the same can be stated for Turner, 27, should the case be heard in the UK.
If Jonas were to win the turf war, the case is likely to return to Miami, where he initially began the proceedings.
The Post reached out to Jonas and Turner for comment
The Jonas Brothers musician filed for divorce after four years of marriage on Sept. 5. One day later, he and the “Game of Thrones” actress released a statement on the matter.
“After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage. There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children,” their joint statement read.
The estranged couple’s relationship seemingly went from amicable to uncivil, however, after Jonas and his p.r. team appeared to launch a smear campaign against Turner, claiming that her affinity for partying was to blame for the marriage breakdown.
“She likes to party; he likes to stay at home. They have very different lifestyles,” an unidentified source told TMZ.
The animosity only escalated after Turner accused Jonas of withholding their children’s passports and not allowing them to return to their “forever home” in England.
A lawsuit filed last week by Turner in Manhattan federal court accused the “Celebrate!” singer of keeping hold of their kids’ passports — despite allegedly agreeing they would raise the girls, aged 3 and 1, in the UK.
According to the filing, the couple had put their Miami home on the market before Jonas allegedly blindsided Turner with the divorce.
In her divorce filing, Turner stated the split happened “very suddenly” after they had a fight Aug. 15, Jonas’ 34th birthday.
The parties were both excited for the family’s move to England in April, the court papers stated.
The document stated that Jonas would take both girls on tour while Turner was filming the TV show “Joan” in the UK.
“The children would then at least be able to spend some time during the day with one of their parents until the Mother finished her filming commitments,” the filing states, adding it was a “temporary arrangement.”
On Monday, a New York federal judge ruled both children must remain in the New York area during the duration of the divorce.
