Coastal Carolina football coach Tim Beck addressed a since-deleted photo that showed him posing shirtless alongside the school’s bikini-clad dance team while on the beach in Hawaii for the EasyPost Hawai’i Bowl this week.
The team’s official X account posted, and then hours later deleted, the photo which showed Beck arm-in-arm with the Chanticleer Girls and the team’s mascot, Chauncey, while the group stood in shallow water in the ocean earlier this week, according to TMZ.
Beck, who was pictured wearing a necklace with a sign that said “Ball At The Beach,” explained that the photo was a “very spontaneous event” during CCU’s midweek press conference on Wednesday.
“There was no intent to try to generate any particular kind of response one way or the other of how that was,” Beck said. “So, I mean, that’s kind of my statement really on it.”
The photo has since made its way around social media.
Beck reportedly shared the photo on his personal Instagram story, and the dance team’s account commented on it, saying: “Glad we ran into you at the beach today. Thanks for the picture!”
The photo is not on Beck’s Instagram Story as of Thursday.
The photo was initially posted Tuesday and deleted just a few hours later, according to The Sun News.
“Teal Tuesday from the island,” the Coastal Carolina football X account wrote in the caption and tagged Beck, the dance team and the mascot’s pages.
Some of Beck’s players reportedly approved of the photo, including offensive lineman Will McDonald and backup quarterback Jarrett Guest, the latter of whom commented with: “Ladies man.”
Others claimed the photo seemed inappropriate.
One mother of a member of the CCU dance team felt differently, and had no problem with the since-deleted photo, according to OutKick.
“We (dance moms) are appalled at the comments we are seeing about Coach Beck and the girls,” the mother, whose name was withheld, told the outlet.
“It’s obvious they want to slander him and they’re using the girls to support their claim.”
Coastal Carolina also addressed the situation.
“The photo was taken as part of the football team’s documentation of its trip to Honolulu to participate in the Hawaii Bowl,” CCU director of communications Jerry Rashid told The Sun News. “The Chanticleers look forward to playing in the bowl game on Saturday.”
Beck posted a separate photo of himself standing on a balcony overlooking the ocean Wednesday, captioned: “ALOHA from the island.”
The Chanticleers program is in Honolulu for Saturday’s EasyPost Hawai’i Bowl against San Jose State.
