Andy Cohen and John Mayer are ‘in love’ — and more bromance moments

This bromance is one for the ages.

Andy Cohen and John Mayer have been best buds for over a decade after meeting through a friend and discovering their mutual love for the Grateful Dead.

And the “Watch What Happens Live” host even confessed that the two are “in love with each other,” even though their relationship is strictly platonic.

During an appearance on SiriusXM’s “The Howard Stern Show” in June 2023, host Howard Stern asked Cohen, 55, if he was in love with the “Gravity” singer, 46.

And his response was an emphatic yes.

“I am in love with John Mayer,” Cohen said. “We are in love with each other.”

He later swore on his children Benjamin Allen, 4, and Lucy Eve, 19 months, that he and Mayer, who is straight, have never had a sexual relationship.

This isn’t the first time that the “The Daddy Diaries: The Year I Grew Up” author, who is gay, has combatted rumors that he and Mayer are an item.

In 2018, Cohen denied the pair were dating after Mayer serenaded him with an acoustic version of Diana Ross‘ “It’s My House.”

“Listen, we have a very sweet friendship, and we are together all the time,” Cohen told CNN after he was asked if he was surprised that people thought they were dating. “I think that I was not surprised because we also have a great love for each other. So, it just seems like the obvious assumption.”

From sweet serenades to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, scroll down for the cutest moments from Cohen and Mayer’s “sweet friendship” throughout the years.

Cohen shared a sweet snap of himself and his bestie on Instagram when they appeared at a Grateful Dead concert.

The buds, who are notorious fans of the rock band, attended a whopping five shows during their farewell tour.

To travel to all the tour stops, the pair hit the road in Mayer’s EarthRoamer off-road camping truck.

Mayer later went on to tour with Dead and Company.

“John Mayer and I have what some would consider an unlikely friendship. He’s one of our greatest living guitarists, and I’m regarded as the dude that stirs the s— on late-night TV,” Cohen wrote in an article for Entertainment Weekly. “We do have one thing that bonds us: our love of the Grateful Dead. So when the band did five shows this summer — their last ever — we used their Santa Clara, California, gigs as an excuse to take a road trip and bro it up.”

Cohen shared a candid Instagram of Mayer lounging in a hotel bathrobe, while the two had breakfast on a balcony during the singer’s “The Search For Everything Tour.”

He captioned the photo, “I have the best, weirdest travel karma with @johnmayer where we always wind up in the same city, which means lots of food and a river of words. He split again, for the #SearchForEverything tour. Can’t wait to see it.”

Instead of a smile, Cohen flashed his foot in the photo.

June 2018

Mayer appeared on Cohen’s Bravo show “Watch What Happens Live” during his “Andy’s Big Five-Oh!” 50th birthday celebration and surprised the host with an acoustic cover of Diana Ross’ “It’s My House.”

“I’ve done nothing but learn that song in the last 48 hours,” Mayer explained after a giddy Cohen thanked the singer with a hug and kiss on the lips. “I have eaten, breathed, and slept ‘It’s My House.’”

“I didn’t know the song,” he added. “Now I’ll never forget the song.”

“John wrote, ‘I have never met you yet I already love you,’” Cohen revealed. “So sweet. What are you, a songwriter or something?”

“Still got it,” Mayer joked back.

The “Daughters” crooner personalized the gift during the appearance and promised to give Cohen’s son “as many guitar lessons as you want.”

Mayer was eager to give a speech applauding Cohen’s “enormous contributions to the world of entertainment” when his pal received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at a ceremony held in Los Angeles.

“Andy is a classic entertainer — that’s not to say that celebrities in the modern era can’t be entertaining or intriguing,” he said. “In fact, those are some of Andy’s favorites, the unintentionally intriguing celebrities. But to be a true entertainer in today’s day and age is to hold an extremely rare position, because it is a massive commitment to the world and the entertainer’s place in it.”

He continued, “Life at its core is transactional — you try to earn more than you spend, experience more joy than disappointment, more hope than you do discouragement. And if you’re lucky, you win the day by a thin margin, just in time to start the whole game over again. Like the greatest entertainers of all time, Andy Cohen widens that margin, eases the burden of life.”

“His voice on radio, his humor and charm on his nightly late-night talk show, and his reality TV dynasty all bring a much-needed ray of sunshine into our lives,” Mayer added. “Making our morning drives a little less soul-crushing, our nights a little less lonely, and allowing us to feel as if we have a friend up there, among the Hollywood stars. Good line, right?”

“He’s a Madonna stan and a Deadhead. He’s an A-lister, who parties like a B-lister, with the free spirit of a C-lister,” Mayer said. “I love Andy more than I can tell you. He’s a brilliant human being, a hilarious cohort, a loving son and brother — and more recently he’s become a proud, engaged and deeply devoted father.”

Mayer ended his speech by thanking Cohen for being everyone’s friend.

“But beneath the games and hilarious bits, there’s a streak of deeply important social change that Andy Cohen has brought about in the world. It’s so seamlessly executed that it might be hard to notice but because of Andy, everyone in America now has at least one gay friend. It’s a kind of advocacy that those in need of a lesson in tolerance don’t even realize is being taught to them. He’s just … Andy,” he concluded. “And in his truthful living and in his truthful reporting of his life’s experiences, he’s softening hearts and opening minds, all while giving the world these things to enjoy.”
