Stephen A. Smith can’t stop gushing over Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift.
The ESPN personality praised the Chiefs tight end and singer, who have become a sports and pop culture phenomenon, during an appearance on “The Howard Stern Show” on Tuesday, and explained why the couple has a bright future.
“She’s an incredible artist,” the 56-year-old Smith said. “I went to her concert with my daughter [Samantha]… It was off the chain. I loved it. I couldn’t believe how much I loved it… She was phenomenal.”
Smith commended Kelce for being multi-faceted outside of football when Stern said the All-Pro NFLer “has to marry” Swift so he could have a career “bigger” than Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
“He is on the verge of being a three-time Super Bowl champion,” Smith said, referring to the Chiefs punching their ticket to the AFC Championship after a 27-24 win against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.
“He’s universally recognized as one of the greatest tight ends in the history of football. Good looking dude, got style, got flair. He’s got skills. He’s got a future in this business [broadcasting] right here once he retires from football.
“I’m here to tell you that because he’s got the look, he’s got the style, he’s got the stature, he’s got the pizzazz — he’s the total package, OK? He’s a really, really good dude.”
Smith defended Swift on “First Take” earlier this month, when he argued “it ain’t her fault” that she gets so much attention at Chiefs games.
“I have to take a moment to come to the defense of Taylor Swift,” he said at the time. “Everybody’s sitting up there and acting like she’s some kind of impediment. Excuse me, she did her job. That Eras Tour? Off the chain, [it] generated billions.”
“… She’s going to support her dude. To show up at a football game and the cameras are on her — that ain’t her fault. And excuse me, by the way, she went to the games after the concerts. It’s not like she used the games to bump up the concerts.
“… Taylor Swift is that girl! Let’s show some respect. She probably is gonna have a positive impact on Travis Kelce’s performance, OK. I’m not trying to disrespect Taylor Swift.”
Swift has attended 11 Chiefs games so far this season, where cameras and crowds of screaming fans have followed her every move.
The “Cruel Summer” singer discussed the attention at games in a recent interview she did with TIME as the publication’s 2023 Person of the Year.
“There’s a camera, like, a half-mile away, and you don’t know where it is, and you have no idea when the camera is putting you in the broadcast, so I don’t know if I’m being shown 17 times or once,” she said.
“I’m just there to support Travis,” she said. “I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads and Chads.”
Swift was in attendance for the Chiefs’ 27-24 win against the Bills in the divisional round on Sunday — and was present for Kansas City’s 26-7 victory against the Dolphins at Arrowhead Stadium the week prior.
The 12-time Grammy-winner has been spending time with Kelce in Kansas City while on a hiatus from her “Eras Tour,” which picks back up in February.
Kelce reportedly plans to join Swift on tour in the offseason.
The couple was first linked in September and went public with their relationship the following month.
Kelce has already asked the singer’s father, Scott Swift for his daughter’s hand in marriage, according to Page Six.
