The ghost of social media past has come back to haunt Ayo Edebiri.
The comedian and Saturday’s host of “Saturday Night Live” apologized mid-show for certain comments she had made about Jennifer Lopez who was also on the show as its musical guest.
Edebiri’s remarks came during a game show sketch with Kenan Thompson who forced Edebiri, 28, and the other contestants to reckon with past comments made on social media.
“Okay. We get it. It’s wrong to leave mean comments, or post comments just for clout, or run your mouth on a podcast, and you don’t consider the impact because you’re 24 and stupid,” the “Big Mouth” star said during the sketch.
“But I think I speak for everyone when I say from now on, we’re going to be a lot more thoughtful about what we post online,” Edebiri added.
The Post reached out to Edebiri for comment.
The apology comes after the “Bottoms” actress called Lopez, 54, a “scam” during an appearance on the podcast “Scam Goddess” in 2020.
“Today I was actually thinking about one of my favorite scams of all time because J.Lo is performing at the Super Bowl Halftime Show,” she said to host Laci Mosley.
“Her whole career is one long scam,” Edebiri added to which Mosley, 32, agreed adding the “Jenny from the Block” couldn’t sing.
“Well, that’s the thing,” Edebiri stated. “She thinks she’s on multiple tracks, but it’s not her.”
During her time on the podcast, Edebiri — who recently won a Primetime Emmy Award for her breakout role in Hulu’s “The Bear” — admitted she was fascinated when allegations that Lopez used ghost singers in her music first arose.
“A lot of the write-ups of the songs will be like, ‘J.Lo didn’t have time to make it to the studio,’ like, J.Lo was busy,” she said. “It’s like, ‘Doing what?’ Not singing, obviously.”
One R&B star named Ashanti has previously claimed that Lopez attempted to pass off her reference track vocals as her own voice in the songs “I’m Real” and “Ain’t it Funny.”
Neith Lopez nor Edebiri have publically addressed the comments made on the podcast.
In a promo for the show released on Friday, the singer and comedy star seemed to have made up after Lopez turned to Edebiri and said: “I’m really excited. I love your show.”
“I love your everything,” Edebiri responds.
The promo caused several online fans to slam the “Clone High” star.
“Ayo has a natural flair for comedy,” one laughed.
“‘I love your everything,’” Ayo being a scammer,” another chuckled.
A third screamed, “AYO WE HEARD THE PODCAST! YOU’RE not fooling anyone.”
