The sudden death of Lady Gabriella Windsor’s husband, Thomas Kingston, has sparked renewed interest in the editor — and her parents, Prince and Princess Michael of Kent.
Kingston and Gabriella, 42, tied the knot in May 2019 at Windsor Castle after meeting five years prior.
The financier was found dead at age 45 in Gloucestershire, England, on Sunday. No cause of death has been determined yet.
The late Queen Elizabeth II, her husband Prince Philip and other members of the royal family were in attendance at the lavish event.
So what is Gabriella’s connection to the Firm? Turns out she has a pretty big claim to the British throne.
The Prince and Princess Michael of Kent are the Queen’s first cousin and his wife.
When she was born in 1981, she was 18th in line to the crown and is currently 56th. Gabriella herself is a second cousin to King Charles, 75.
Prince Michael, 81, was the third child of Prince George, Duke of Kent, who in turn was the fourth son of King George V and a younger brother of Kings Edward VIII and George VI — the father of Queen Elizabeth.
In a wild twist, Michael is also the first cousin once removed of the Duke of Edinburgh. His mother Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark’s paternal uncle was Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark — the father of Philip.
While he is not a working royal, Michael has often times represented the Queen during her reign at events in other countries of the Commonwealth.
In the past, he has represented the monarch at state funerals in places such as India, Cyprus and Swaziland.
Despite Michael retiring from public life in June 2022, he has been a patron of over 100 charities and organizations.
He also has the privilege of attending two major royal events during his lifetime. He appeared at Charles’ May 6 crowning last year and was even a page boy at the Queen’s wedding to Philip in 1947 at age 5.
The former British army man married Baroness Marie-Christine Anna Agnes Hedwig Ida von Reibnitz — a.k.a Princess Michael — in 1978.
Marie-Christine, 79, has German, Austrian, Czech and Hungarian ancestry, with her father being a member of the Nazi Party during World War II.
The couple are also parents to son Lord Frederick Windsor, 44, who is married to actress Sophie Winkleman.
The interior designer has been linked to several controversies over the years.
Marie-Christine was accused in 2004 of bashing black diners at a New York restaurant. She allegedly told them to “go back to the colonies,” however, her rep at the time denied this.
In 2014, she was interviewed by Conrad Black and she called the older generation of the Windsor clan “boring for most people.”
One major incident that took place was in December 2017, when she was blasted for donning a blackamoor brooch that was adorned with figure of an African man to a Christmas bash at Buckingham Palace.
Prince Harry’s biracial wife, Meghan Markle, was present at the event.
Via her rep, Princess Michael said in a statement she was “very sorry and distressed” that it “caused offense.”
In another instance, Gabriella’s ex-boyfriend Aatish Taseer claimed in 2018 that Marie-Christine owned two black sheep that she named after tennis pros Venus and Serena Williams.
