Reunited and it feels so good.
Shortly after news broke Thursday that Sterling Shepard is signing a one-year deal with the Buccaneers, reuniting him with former Oklahoma teammate Baker Mayfield, the girlfriend of the former Giants receiver celebrated the move with a heartfelt throwback post.
“Secrets out: baker 🤝 sterling,” Carolyn Moore posted on her Instagram Story alongside a photo of Mayfield embracing Shepard during their time with the Sooners.
Shepard, 31, played at Oklahoma from 2012-15 and was selected by the Giants in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft with the No. 40 overall pick.
He amassed 327 receptions, 4,095 yards and 23 touchdowns during his eight seasons with the Giants.
Upon wrapping the 2023 season, Shepard — who battled injuries during his Giants tenure — penned a message to fans with his NFL future uncertain.
“Forever grateful to the New York Giants organization, past and present teammates, and the incredible fan base for their unwavering love and support over the past 8 years,” Shepard wrote on Instagram in January.
“New Jersey, my second home, will forever hold a special place in my heart. Thank you for embracing me with open arms and making me feel like family. Once a Giant, always a Giant!”
Five months after that post, Shepard now has a new NFL home.
The seeds of a Mayfield reunion were planted earlier this week when Shepard received a text from the Buccaneers quarterback, who signed a three-year contract extension in March worth up to $100 million after leading Tampa Bay to the playoffs in his first year with the team.
“I got a text from my boy and I just thought it was ‘regular old checking in to see how I was doing’ type of text, because we do that from time to time to each other,’’ Shepard told The Post on Thursday.
Mayfield then asked, “How does your body feel?” and “Do you think you got any more left in you?’’
Shepard’s agent then got in contact with the Buccaneers’ front office.
“I’m looking forward to it,’’ Shepard said of joining the Buccaneers. “It’s a new scene. I can’t say I wanted to experience that, I always wanted to be a Giant but I’m not mad at it, man. It’s a really good situation, they have a really good football team, really talented football team and I get to be reunited with my boy and get to play with him a little bit.”
Mayfield, 29, enjoyed a career resurgence in Tampa last season following a turbulent ride in 2022 when he bounced from the Panthers to the Rams.
He began his NFL career in 2018 after being selected first overall by the Browns.
Mayfield and wife Emily became first-time parents in April after welcoming daughter Kova.
Shepard, who shares two daughters with ex-wife Chanel Iman, made his romance with Moore public last year.
