There’s no crying in baseball — when you root for the Yankees.
Mets fans are in even more despair this week as the team got swept by the Cubs and fired their manager.
But a 5-year-old Long Islander saw the writing on the wall months ago — when he went viral for sobbing about being a Mets fan after learning he couldn’t switch loyalties to the New York baseball team that actually wins.
“It was a long morning after his older brother told him we’re @mets fans no matter what,” Ezra Rudansky’s dad, Isaac, captioned the Instagram clip, which has racked up 346,000 views.
“Why can’t you be a Mets fan?” Isaac asked the boy as the video begins.
“Because I don’t want to be the worst,” Ezra answered through tears.
“We’re Mets fans in this house,” the father of four replied.
“But I don’t want to be the worst team,” Ezra insisted.
“So which team do you want to root for?” Isaac asked.
“Yankees,” Ezra said.
Ezra of Woodmere, Long Island, told The Post that although his family and friends are Mets fans, he wants to root for the Yankees, “because the Mets are the worst.”
His 10-year-old brother, Aaron, recounted exactly when he broke his little brother’s heart.
“It was after the Mets lost 12 games in a row,” Ezra’s big brother explained.
“Every Mets fan is extremely irate right now, so it struck a chord,” their dad, Isaac, said on Friday.
“Mets GM David Stearns was all about run prevention, he went out and bought five shortstops, let beloved players like Diaz and Alonso and Nimmo go, and with the second-highest payroll in baseball, the Mets are a disaster. With six infield errors against the Cubs, this just has to be rock bottom. Firing Mendoza was just the first in many necessary changes to prepare for a better season in 2027.”
Many in the comments section agreed with little Ezra’s assessment, with comments like, “Smart little boy!” and “Stand your ground Kid!!”
“As a lifelong Mets fan, I mean, he’s not wrong,” one said.
“Liberate that little kid from a lifetime of suffering,” another pleaded.
“Hang in there kid. It can only get worse!” someone else quipped.
Others agreed with his dad, and called being a Mets fan “character building.”
“Sorry friend, no choice. But we got heart,” one said.
“We may lose, but damn it, we have integrity,” another said.
“Gotta work through the pain, little man. Trust me, every 10 years or so when the Mets maybe look like a contender it will be fun,” someone else added.
A few even tagged the Yankees, telling the team to send Ezra tickets and a signed jersey, and one fan offered to send the boy his Bronx Bombers baseball cards.
“I think that baseball teams in general don’t do a good enough job marketing to kids, because you become a fan for life at the age of 5. So all the Yankees need to do is send him a jersey and he would be a diehard fan for life,” said Isaac, who works in advertising.
Although Ezra admitted that he still watches Mets games on TV, he said when they lose, “I get mad.”
However, it will take some time for him to fully become a Yankees fan — and when asked when he’d make the switch, he said, “When I’m older.”
