Portugal won its Round of 32 World Cup matchup against Croatia on July 2 in dramatic fashion.
After falling behind 1-0, Portugal tied things up on a Cristiano Ronaldo penalty in the second half, then scored what ended up being the game-winning goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
Most would have assumed it was Ronaldo who scored this game-winner for his home country. Instead, Ronaldo had been subbed out of the game at that point, and it was Goncalo Ramos who scored the biggest goal of his career on the biggest stage.
Ramos found the back of the net with a sensational header while two defenders were draped on him. As a result, Portugal will face Spain, its biggest rival, in the Round of 16 on July 6.
While Ramos (who plays his club soccer for Serie A squad AC Milan) wasn’t a household name before this goal, he certainly is now.
Which means that his fiancée, Margarida Amaral Domingues, is also in the spotlight in a completely new way.
These two have been together for a long time and are supposed to get married later this month. They also welcomed a son named Bernardo into the world last June.
Domingues posted several photos of her wearing her fiancé’s jersey before Portugal’s World Cup game on Thursday, which she then posted to Instagram with the caption, “🇵🇹❤️”.
It will be awesome to see Ramos’ stardom skyrocket in the wake of this seismic goal, and nobody is surely happier for him now than Domingues.
