How wild ‘Euphoria’ Sydney Sweeney scene helped Homer Gere in ‘The Shards’

Homer Gere says his outlandish sex scene with Sydney Sweeney in “Euphoria” was “really good practice” for his latest role in “The Shards.”

Before his starring role in Ryan Murphy’s new series, Gere had a small role in the third and final season of “Euphoria” as an actor who Sweeney’s character seduced with too much exuberance.

The scene was “really fun to shoot with Sydney. And it was wild. It’s a funny scene,” Gere — who is the son of Richard Gere and Carey Lowell — exclusively told The Post in a July 28 interview.

In “The Shards,” Homer’s character, Robert Mallory, has a few scenes where he has to enthusiastically dance in front of a crowd. 

That “Euphoria” sex scene,“did prepare me, a little bit – for doing some of the dancing stuff [in ‘The Shards’] and being pretty out-there,” Homer, 26, noted.

Premiering Aug. 5 on FX and Hulu, “The Shards” is a teen thriller set in the ‘80s, created by Ryan Murphy and “American Psycho” writer Bret Easton Ellis. 

Based on Ellis’ novel of the same name, “The Shards” follows Bret (Igby Rigney) – a fictionalized version of Ellis – through his final year at an exclusive California high school, as his wealthy classmates party, have sex, do drugs, and get slain by a serial killer. 

Bret, who is secretly attracted to men, is fascinated by the mysterious new student, Robert, but also suspects that he may be the killer. 

Similar to his role in “Euphoria,” Homer said that “The Shards” has “a lot of moments where you just kind of go outside of your body, and you’re doing something that’s really fun and crazy. You just give yourself to it,” he said. 

Bret and Robert’s friend group also includes party girl Debbie (Hayes Warner), jock Thom (Graham Campbell), and popular girl Susan (Kaia Gerber – whose mother, Cindy Crawford, was married to Richard Gere from 1991 to 1995).

Homer told The Post that his father gave him some key advice, to watch the 1977 movie “Looking for Mr. Goodbar,” which Richard was in with Diane Keaton. 

The film, “is about a kind of a guy where you can’t tell if he’s the good guy, or the bad guy. It’s a great movie,” said Homer. 

In the show, as their high school students react to Robert joining their ranks, Bret has his own identity crisis. 

In “The Shards,” Bret publicly dates Debbie – and tries to convince himself he likes her. Secretly, however, he has flings with male classmates. 

Rigby explained that he and Murphy discussed “making sure that there were moments of intimacy between Debbie and Bret, that made the relationship make sense.” 

His private flings with male classmates were “the opportunity to show where Bret’s heart lay,” Rigby told The Post. 

“And get to play a different side of him than he gets to be around the rest of the [friend] group.” 

The show is Warner’s debut and Evan Rachel Wood plays her on-screen mother.

Warner told The Post that, because Wood started her career as a child actress — in movies like “Practical Magic” and “Thirteen” — it “helped” to have “someone that has grown up on a set, and knows how to handle it, and how to carry yourself so beautifully. [Wood] is such an iconic person.” 

“The Shards” premieres Aug. 5 on FX and Hulu.
