“Las Culturistas” just got a little more cultured.
Show co-host and “SNL” legend Bowen Yang was just announced as the next lead in Broadway’s Tony Award-winning comedy “Oh, Mary!”
Yang, 35, will succeed “Hacks” star and comedian Meg Stalter as the titular Mary Todd Lincoln. Stalter has assumed the role since July 6. Her final show will be on Saturday, Sept. 12.
“My friendship with Cole [Escola, the show’s creator and original “Mary”] has brought me many places over the years: late-night pizzerias, cross-borough social-distance walks, a tough production of ‘Les Misérables’ sung in Dutch,” Yang said in a statement. “But being part of their deranged and profound masterpiece, ‘Oh, Mary!,’ is my favorite one by far. I will spend the rest of my life thanking them for the best Broadway debut a cis gay guy with limited singing ability could ask for.”

The “Wicked” actor will be joined by current cast members Phillip James Brannon (Mary’s Husband), Bianca Leigh (Mary’s Chaperone) and Barrett Foa (Mary’s Teacher) as well as Tony Macht, who originated the role of Mary’s Husband’s Assistant.
In the off-chance you’re not familiar with the raucous comedy, the show follows Mary Todd Lincoln in the weeks before President Lincoln’s untimely demise. Although it doesn’t sound like a laugh riot, Escola reinvents history and portrays the First Lady as a cabaret-loving boozer.
