Anthony Bass hits back at critics after United Airlines incident with pregnant wife

Blue Jays pitcher Anthony Bass didn’t back down from critics who challenged his complaint against United Airlines following an alleged incident with his pregnant wife.

In a message posted Sunday on Twitter, the 35-year-old Bass provided more context about the ordeal after alleging a United Airlines flight attendant made his 22-week pregnant wife, Sydney Rae Bass, “get on her hands and knees to pick up the popcorn mess” left by their youngest daughter, 2-year-old Blaire.

“Pregnant women can bend. They may not want to but the solution to that would be to not give your child popcorn on a plane,” one Twitter user wrote to Bass, who indicated in a previous tweet that Sydney, 31, was traveling alone with Blaire and the couple’s 5-year-old daughter Brooklyn.

Bass replied in a quote-tweet: “One last comment about today’s incident, United provided the popcorn, but my wife.”

In response to someone who said, “Be a decent human and if your going to give your kid popcorn on a plane be prepared to pick it up,” Bass hit back with: “You are the perfect parent. You can do no wrong.”

Bass, whose initial tweet sparked a viral debate, thanked those for their support in a separate message.

He also confirmed that United Airlines “is taking care of matters with the flight attendant internally.”

Bass appeared to make light of the situation on Monday by sharing a photo of daughter Blaire smiling while holding a bag of Skinny Pop popcorn.

Sydney, who is expecting a baby boy with Bass, shared the same image on Instagram, writing: “She so cute.”

In addition to Bass, Sydney’s older sister, country music singer Jessie James Decker, also leaped to her defense.

Taking to her Instagram Stories on Sunday, James Decker — the wife of former NFL wide receiver Eric Decker — slammed United Airlines in a message, claiming a staffer “humiliated” Sydney mid-flight.

“Blaire accidentally spilled some popcorn in the aisle, and the flight attendant came up to Sydney with a trash bag and a wet wipe, telling her the captain wants Syd to clean up every drop,” James Decker alleged.

“My poor sister is on her hands and knees, crying in the aisle, completely humiliated and exhausted, with her children while everyone else watched.”

Much like Bass and Sydney though, James Decker also offered a playful response to Blaire’s popcorn snap Monday.

“Popcorn hazard,” she quipped on Instagram.
