Britney Spears tell-all ‘Woman’ memoir surrounded by audiobook mystery

She wants to scream and shout and let it all out — but maybe not necessarily for the audiobook of her bombshell tell-all.

Britney Spears is currently undecided over whether or not she’ll record the audio version of her upcoming memoir “The Woman in Me,” according to a TMZ report.

The outlet reported that one theory of why the 41-year-old singer wouldn’t want to personally record the audio is simply that she feels it’s “too much” to record 288 pages worth of her controversial life story.

Spears and her team are allegedly coming up with a list of names of potential candidates to read the memoir on her behalf in case she comes to the decision to not do it herself.

The “Toxic” singer is reportedly in Mexico with her manager Cade Hudson as they try to come to a final decision.

However, Spears needs to make a choice sooner rather than later, since the memoir is set to release this fall.

The memoir “is a brave and astonishingly moving story about freedom, fame, motherhood, survival, faith, and hope,” according to the book’s website. “‘ The Woman in Me’ reveals for the first time her incredible journey—and the strength at the core of one of the greatest performers in pop music history.”

The title of the book is seemingly a reference to her hit song “I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman,” specifically the lyrics: “I’m not a girl, don’t tell me what to believe / I’m just tryin’ to find the woman in me.”

News of Spears’ memoir was first announced in February 2022, but it was reportedly delayed over concerns among the A-listers mentioned in the book.

Spears’ new book is a chance for her to share her story in her own words.

“Britney’s compelling testimony in open court [about her conservatorship] shook the world, changed laws and showed her inspiring strength and bravery,” Gallery Books senior vice president and publisher Jennifer Bergstrom told People Tuesday.

The “Baby One More Time” singer has been the subject of quite a few recent documentaries surrounding her conservatorship and the #FreeBritney movement — although she had no involvement in any of them.

“With 4 documentaries released about me last year with people I adore speaking about my past !!” she wrote in a previously deleted Instagram post. “Unfortunately, the way my past was portrayed in those documentaries was extremely embarrassing !!! It felt semi-illegal !!!”

“I had a lot of therapy to get this book done, so you guys better like it. If you don’t like it, that’s fine too,” she added.
