Build-A-Bear unveils RuPaul collectible: ‘I feel like a proud parent’

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” fans can sashay to Build-A-Bear for a plush version of “The Queen of Drag” herself.

The 62-year-old legend announced her collaboration with the retailer Wednesday in an Instagram video that showed her unboxing the “gorgeous” pre-stuffed brown bear dressed in a gold one-shoulder sequined gown.

“I feel like a proud parent,” RuPaul exclaimed at the sight of her collectible.

The bear rocks gold eye shadow, winged eyeliner and red lipstick. Complete with a voluminous blonde wig, it sells for $56 — and matching bear-sized strappy heels can be purchased for an additional $8.

Clicking on the product on the Build-A-Bear website directs users to The Bear Cave — a section of the site “filled with unexpected collabs and unique plush gifts, intended for shoppers 18 and older.”

Bears inspired by “Friends,” “Star Wars” and “The Matrix” are also sold in The Bear Cave.

“Cover BEAR! Put the fur in your walk. Head to paw, let your whole body talk,” reads the RuPaul Bear product description, full of “Drag Race” puns.

“She done already done had herses — and now you can have yourses with your very own RuPaul Bear! Two iconic pop culture institutions join forces for this one-of-a-kind collector’s item made in tribute to the world’s most famous drag queen.”

The passage concludes: “Category is teddy bear realness with RuPaul Bear’s signature wig and gold sequin dress included. While this isn’t RuPaul’s Best Friend Race, RuPaul Bear is still sure to become your new best squirrel friend and TV watching partner.”

The RuPaul Bear cannot be purchased unstuffed, nor can a scent or sound be placed inside of the toy, per the website. However, it can arrive with a Build-A-Bear birth certificate.

Social media was bear-y shook over the collab.

“WHY IS NO ONE TALKING ABOUT THE RUPAUL BUILD A BEAR LMAAOOOOO,” one person wondered very aloud.

“OMG a Rupaul Build-a-Bear… the way they gave the bear an hourglass shape, a beat and heels. I’m dying,” another declared.

“Build her??? I don’t even know her??!!!” a fan commented on the Instagram post, referencing yet another RuPaul-ism.

“I want to see her on the judge panel next episode,” another chimed in.

Others noticed the “spooky” timing of the partnership in the wake of Tennessee’s new law restricting “adult cabaret performances” in public or in the presence of children.

“At a time in which drag is being criminalized in the US, Build-A-Bear has released a RuPaul bear and I think that’s just FANTASTIC,” one fan tweeted.

“The Republicans will outlaw this within the next 24 hours while more kids die,” another stated, referencing Monday’s Nashville elementary school shooting.

“Everyone clap for build a bear for making a drag queen into a toy for children while people are screaming drag is harmful to kids,” another supporter wrote on Instagram.
