It’s the end of his ride.

Denim Richards, who played the ranch hand Colby on “Yellowstone,” said goodbye in the most recent episode. He’s the latest victim on the hit Paramount Network ranch drama, which has had a high body count in its fifth and final season.

Unlike John Dutton (Kevin Costner) or Sarah Atwood (Dawn Olivieri), Colby wasn’t taken out by a hit man, but by a horse.

“There’s always two reactions,” Richards told The Post about getting the news.

“You have your personal reaction, which is the ‘who, what, when, where, why.’ In the beginning [his death] was a tough one to swallow. I’ve been very connected to this character for a while. Once you get past that ocean of emotion, at the end of the day, so much of what we do as artists is really about the bigger picture.”

Colby was killed by a horse while saving Carter (Finn Little).

“It was very much a cowboy’s death. It was kind of what a real life situation would be,” said Richards. “These things are not uncommon, that’s what makes it so tragic. So, this is a little bit more of a hero’s death.”

Richards said that his final day on set ended up having a surprising twist.

“The funny part about the last day of filming [is that] I was an emotional wreck driving into set…I was like ‘this is the last time I’ll put this hat on.’ I got there dealing with all this emotion, and then there’s this massive thunderstorm.”

Because of the lightning, filming got delayed first an hour, then five hours. Finally, they ended up postponing the shoot by two weeks.

“So I had gone through all this emotional ‘this is the last time.’ And it was like, ‘actually you ‘re gonna do this again in two weeks,’” Richards said, laughing.

“When I came back, I had time to properly deal with the emotions. Once you get onto set, it feels like any other day, until it’s not. Then of course at the end, you say thank you to everybody, but you try not to make it too much about yourself.”

Some viewers took to social media to express outrage about Colby’s death.

“The fans are giving an overwhelmingly beautiful response,” said Richards.

“I definitely knew there would be a handful of fans that would feel very sad. There are some fans that have always engaged with me from the beginning — 2017; 2018 — but, I wasn’t necessarily prepared for the wonderful outpouring of love and support. We have the most loyal and wonderful fans.”

For those who bemoan his absence, Richards isn’t done with the show yet. He joked that it’s not like “Survivor” where “once you’re gone, you’re voted off the island.”

He’s been filming a video series called “Stories from the Bunkhouse” with his co-stars Ian Bohen and Jefferson White, where they discuss each episode after it airs. (Videos are available on YouTube). Even though Colby isn’t in the final two episodes, Richards will stick around and discuss them.

“Stories from the Bunkhouse is still one of my favorite parts of the show,” he said.

He said that actors weren’t told how the show would end outside of filming their own scenes, in order to keep details under wraps.

“We didn’t really know everything that was happening in every scene that we were doing,” he explained to the Post.

“We didn’t know how it formed into the bigger picture. But, as you get close to the final episodes, you see how things round out. I think it’s a fun and exhilarating ride.”

About the rumors that there could be more “Yellowstone” after Season 5, he said, “For this show, any and all possibilities are always possible.”

“Yellowstone” is currently airing Sundays (8 p.m.) on Paramount Network.
