Fan bloodied by Travis Kelce’s brutal golf shot was focused on ‘not blacking out’

The woman struck by Travis Kelce’s errant golf ball during a celebrity golf tournament earlier this month is recalling the moments after she was hit.

Katie Hauss had been at the American Century Championship at Lake Tahoe on July 12 with her husband when she was hit by Kelce’s ball in the back of the head.

She told People that she felt pain “immediately” after she was hit and that her focus was on “not blacking out” while trying to figure out what just happened.

“I then heard people start yelling and screaming that it was Travis Kelce’s golf shot, and ‘Oh my god, that girl just got hit in the head,’” she recalled to the outlet.

“I tried to stay really calm and told my husband that I thought I was OK, it just hurt really bad. Then when I put my hand to my head there was a lot of blood. I knelt down to try and get my bearings and then a Good Samaritan — he must have been a doctor or a first responder of some sort — came over and immediately applied pressure to the wound on my head. He told me stay still and that they were calling for the EMTs. I am just so appreciative to that man for helping me, a complete stranger, and I wish I could thank him for his kindness.”

Haus said that she and her husband go to the celebrity golf tournament every year and it’s something they look forward to.

Kelce and his brother Jason were among the celebs the couple had been looking forward to seeing and when Kelce realized he had hit the woman with his ball he went over to check on her.

Haus told People that Jason also was “genuinely concerned” about her well-being.

“Travis must have walked down as I was still on the ground,” Hauss said. “I just remember seeing him come up and then I don’t remember exactly what he said, but he asked if I was OK. I could tell that he felt really badly. He joked that the least he could do was take a photo with me, so I stood up and joked back that at least the front of me looked OK and wasn’t bleeding if we were going to take a photo.

“Travis said that he couldn’t bring himself to smile given the circumstances. I honestly felt bad for him, because I know that it was a total accident, and that can’t feel good to do that with a huge crowd looking on.”

Video from that day had shown Kelce coming up to Haus to check on her and the Chiefs’ tight end looking concerned and trying to comfort the fallen fan, as well as posing for the photo that Haus had described.

EMT’s found that her head was split by the shot and she went to the emergency room, where they found she had a concussion and needed stitches.

She told People that she “still can’t believe it happened” and that she was slowly recovering from the incident.
