Guy Fieri was once falsely accused of fatal drinking and driving accident

The King of Flavortown opened up Tuesday about being falsely accused of hitting and killing a man while attending the University of Nevada, Las Vegas at the age of 19.

Guy Fieri, 55, appeared on the podcast “Now What? with Brooke Shields” and revealed the true details of what happened during the crash.

“I was in a fatality car accident when I was 19 when I was in college,” explained Fieri. “I wasn’t driving, I was in the backseat. And unfortunately, I was with a bunch of guys and … we were drinking.”

The Post reached out to Fieri for comment.

According to the internet sensation, the group had been watching drag boat racing moments before the crash.

“This guy saw a cop and he was drinking. We were camping half a mile away. And he took off and we got chased and the car flipped and the guy next to me was killed. It was horrific,”,” explained the “Guy’s Grocery Games” host. “Everybody was messed up. And I did go Flight for Life in the helicopter and the whole thing.”

Fieri claimed that when he woke up, he was handcuffed to a gurney due to the fact that “everybody in that car [said] I was the one that was driving.”

The Emmy award-winner told Shields that he was then arrested by Nevada police in his dorm room which forced his parents to hire a lawyer.

“It was going bad after worse because everybody was saying that I was, you know … Anyhow, the cops knew I wasn’t [responsible],” he said.

Fieri also recalled the dire warning his father gave him after the tragic incident.

“My dad told me, ‘Cut the sh-t. You’re not invincible. This is for real now. You’re not in your hometown anymore. You’re in Las Vegas … you got to focus,’” said Fieri who also revealed the accident marked a major turning point in his thinking.

“I was like ‘Okay – my family didn’t have any money. I’m not the smartest kid.’ Didn’t get the best grades. But if I’m going to win, I’m going to win based upon how hard I play and how disciplined I am and how driven and how controlled I am,” said Fieri. “And if I do that then I have a better chance at getting through this.”

Since then, Fieri has used the experience as a way of parenting his sons Hunter and Ryder.

“It’s things I teach my kids all the time. Don’t trust anybody to drive you. Don’t trust what anybody puts in a drink and gives it to you. Don’t trust if anybody tells you that this is safe or this is smart,” explained the Food Network star. “You have to be the master of your domain. You have to be in control of your environment.”
