Gwen Stefani is just a girl who can’t put on her headphones and listen to her old music anymore.
The “Rich Girl” singer, 54, recently revealed that hearing songs from her past band No Doubt makes her want to vomit.
“I can’t listen to a lot of the songs because they speak so clearly to me,” she said on KROQ’s Audacy Check In show. “And it’s like, you know, you have regrets, you have mistakes you’ve made. And most of the songs are about that.”
She added, “If I do ‘Ex-Girlfriend,’ even when I say it, I almost throw up in my mouth. Just knowing exactly where I was in that moment to write that song and what I know now? It’s just like, ‘Oh, my God.’ It just brings you right back.”
Stefani was a part of the music group from 1986 to 2004, until she went on to pursue a solo career and later released her own album, “Love. Angel. Music. Baby.”
“The Voice” coach has used her love life for many of No Doubt’s songs, such as their 1995 tune “Don’t Speak” that was about her split from bandmate Tony Kanal.
“Ex-Girlfriend” dropped in 2000 and was about her former husband Gavin Rossdale. Stefani is now married to country star Blake Shelton.
The Bush frontman, 58, was married to Stefani from 2002 to 2015. They share sons Kingston, 17, Zuma, 15, and Apollo, 9, together.
Stefani and her brother Eric formed the group in 1986 alongside John Spence, who died by suicide in 1987. The group was later joined by Kanal, 53, as well as Adrian Young, 54, and Tom Dumont, 56.
Even though listening to the band’s old hits may make Stefani sick to her stomach, she still loves performing them live.
“There’s lots of times you’ll be on tour and doing the repetitive songs but it’s not the songs. You’re with these new people every night and they’re receiving the songs,” she told the radio show.
The Grammy winner went on: “I can’t believe I was chosen to have this life because it’s such an incredible way to express yourself and to know yourself. And the songs do that.”
No Doubt will reunite and perform for the first time in nine years at the 2024 Coachella festival later this year.
The music concert will take place over two weekends — April 12-14 and 19-21 in Indio, Calif.
Other superstars who will take the stage include Lana Del Rey, J Balvin, Tyler, The Creator and Doja Cat.
