Jennifer Tilly is opening up about her divorce.
On the Tuesday episode of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” the actress got candid on her split from ex-husband Sam Simon while the other ladies discussed their own separations from their former spouses.
“It takes a really long time to get over a divorce,” Tilly, 66, recounted. “My ex-husband was Sam Simon, who [co-created] ‘The Simpsons.’ I was married to him for seven years. We were together for about 10 years, and then when we got divorced, I got a piece of ‘The Simpsons’ in the divorce settlement.”
“Nobody knew that ‘The Simpsons’ was going to go on for trillions of years,” she teased with a laugh. “Honestly, every day, I’m like, ‘Thank you Sam!’”
Tilly and Simon were married from 1984 to 1991 with “The Simpsons” debuting on Fox in 1989. Simon died in 2015 from colon cancer at age 59.
Tilly joined the franchise as “a friend of” for Season 14 alongside Bozoma “Boz” Saint John.
The “Chucky ” alum spoke to Vulture ahead of the season premiere, telling the outlet that she had “always been a superfan” of the reality show and was looking forward to stepping into her new role.
But Tilly also admitted it isn’t as glamorous as she thought it would be. As for what surprised the star the most?
“I remember I was like, ‘I live in Beverly Hills, and it’d be kind of fun to see Beverly Hills through the lens of really rich people,’” Tilly explained. “I thought that I was going to see a lot of people shopping on Rodeo Drive, but a lot of the filming that they do is in the Valley, in places where it’s easier to get permits. So it’s not like you’re at the fanciest places in Beverly Hills, arguing.”
“They’re usually arguing at some kind of non–Beverly Hills place because the really fancy, elite places don’t want Housewives screaming at each other in their dining room,” she added.
Tilly revealed that she had turned down the opportunity to be on the series in past years, but this time she decided to take on the “challenge.”
“To me, it’s like working with Martin Scorsese,” she said. “My boyfriend always says if he got $40 million, he wants to go into space and experience zero gravity. To me, being on ‘Housewives’ is experiencing zero gravity. I was more excited to meet Kyle Richards and Erika Jayne and the other ladies than I was when I met Elizabeth Taylor.”
And Tilly’s longtime friend Sutton Stracke shared some sound advice for her bestie after having been on “RHOBH” in Season 10.
“I’m so happy I get to spend more time with Sutton because in the last few years, since she’s been on ‘Housewives,’ now I understand it’s so intensive and I didn’t get to see as much of her as I like,” Tilly told People in August.
“She’s great because she’s kind of showing me the ropes because it’s a little intimidating,” she added. “She’s a stellar Housewife. … [She’s] very forthright, like, ‘You need to do this or you need to do that.’”
Stracke, who was standing beside Tilly during the interview, chimed in: “No, it’s funny because I did Jennifer’s series ‘Chucky.’ I never had done anything like that in my life, so that was new for me. Seeing [her] come on with us, I’m like, ‘No, no, no, we don’t cut. We don’t say action because it’s not scripted — you actually just talk.’”
