Kellie Pickler’s late husband, Kyle Jacobs, was honored at a private ceremony at Franklin First UMC in Franklin, Tennessee, on Monday, months after his death.
Jacobs died by suicide in February at age 49. The country singer reportedly did not take part in the service.
“While this celebration was long in coming, it was necessary for us, his parents, to cope with the shock of his passing, and to work through adjusting to this life without our beloved son. Thus, Kyle’s Celebration of Life was created and presented in a thoughtful and thorough way to best honor how Kyle lived his life,” his family wrote in a press release.
“Kyle was a Lover of Life! He loved his family and his friends, and he earnestly showed love and brought joy to countless others he did not even know. Remembrances continue to come to us daily,” the statement continued. “He was known for his genuine, humble spirit and an ability to touch another person’s life in a moment.”
Jacobs was remembered at the memorial with stories told by his loved ones. The group also played his song “You Are with Me.”
In February, Pickler and her personal assistant called authorities when they couldn’t open the door to a room in their house. When police arrived at their Nashville residence on Feb. 17, Jacobs’ body was found.
His toxicology report revealed that no drugs were in his system at the time. He did, however, have a history of “pseudoseizures, gastrointestinal bleeding, elevated liver enzymes, and chronic alcohol use.”
Pickler broke her silence on her husband’s death six months after his passing.
“One of the most beautiful lessons my husband taught me was in a moment of a crisis, if you don’t know what to do, ‘do nothing, just be still. I have chosen to heed his advice,” she told PEOPLE in August.
“Thank you to my family, friends, and supporters, for the countless letters, calls, and messages that you have sent my way. It has truly touched my soul and it’s helping me get through the darkest time in my life. As many of you have told me, you are all in my prayers,” she continued. “Love & Blessings, Kellie.”
The couple married in 2010 after two years of dating.
